linus6948
A tradition of my Wife`s that has been going on for more than 20yrs now was repeated again yesterday with our annual pilgrimage to my friends farm to pick a bin of pumpkins. For the last couple of years my Sister-in-law has joined us and also picks a bin for her house. None of these pumpkins are used for food, actually I should correct that statement. They all get eaten by the local wildlife, everything from the black bear down to chipmunks get in on these. It is all for decorating around the house for the Autumn season. My friend Lenny the farmer roars with laughter every time we arrive each September to do this. He thinks it is absolutely hysterical to not even make a single pie out of what we pick and only use them to decorate the landscape. But it is what she likes to do and she puts up with me and my hobbies and what I collect and that stuff/junk generally never leaves, so I shut-up and pick pumpkins. 1940plymouth
We use to do the same until he stopped growing pumpkins a few years ago.
Don Coatney
We did this one year and in December just tossed the pumpkins near the shrubs below the deck. Never had to buy another pumpkin.
40plyrod
We feed the left over pumpkins to our beef cows on pasture and occasionally find the odd plant growing somewhere on pasture the next year
linus6948
We have had a vine grow here and there in the spots that we toss them and I`ve even seen a pumpkin flower on those vines occasionally. But our resident white tails never let a pumpkin bloom get past them, they usually eat the whole damn vine, so we`ve never grown a pumpkin yet. pflaming
When the pumpkin is a showen, it soon will be a snowen. So pleased it's you not me.
Ulu
. . . just tossed the pumpkins . . . Next year we're going pumpkin tossing out on the open BLM land, with a tow-behind trebuchet. I'm probably going to license it as ag equipment, but it's not built yet. It'll only be medium sized. Not these monsters you see on Youtube. The idea is not really to toss the farthest, but just to chuck them up like skeet, so we can blast them in the air with shotguns as they fly by. Does this sound like fun to anybody else?
