RobertKB Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Had a bit of rain the last few days but today, although cool, was sunny with no wind. I thought what a great day to take an old car for a drive so I got the 1938 Chrysler Royal Touring Sedan out and put about 40 miles on it. The car ran flawlessly and enjoyed the day as much as I did. I try never to pass up a nice day to get an old car out. They are no fun sitting in your garage! I encourage all of you to drive your old car(s) whenever you can. When you are dead, there will be lots of time to not drive them! 8 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 If I had that car you wouldn't be able to get me out of it. What a beauty! 3 Quote
Tatback Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Gorgeous car, love that first picture too! 1 Quote
RobertKB Posted May 18, 2015 Author Report Posted May 18, 2015 Thanks guys for all the nice comments. I've had the car done for 10 years and have put 5,000+ miles on it. It was a 19 year project. I started when my kids were quite young and money was a problem at times with a young family. I nearly gave up on it a few times and just about sold it at one point but persevered and am glad I did. I finally finished it in time for my daughter's wedding. I still have the car, my daughter, and two wonderful grandsons............but not the son-in-law. While working on the Chrysler, I fortunately had my '53 Plymouth and '48 Dodge D25 coupe (see avatar) to drive so could always get my old car fix. I thought I would include some before pictures to encourage those working on a project at the present. Quote

RobertKB Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) Another nice day, another car. Today I was out in the 1953 Plymouth Belvedere 4-door. The Belvedere 4-door was a Canadian only model. This car is 95% original including the paint. It is about 150 miles shy of turning 100,000 miles. The engine has only had rings at about 72,000 miles and a burnt valve replaced at the same time. I have owned it since 1975, the same year I got married. I still have my wife as well. I took the pictures in the exact location where I took those of the '38 Chrylser. I tried to get the same angles as well. Next up will be the '48 Dodge D25 Club Coupe as soon as I finish doing the brake work to it that I started in the fall. Edited May 19, 2015 by RobertKB 2 Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 I don't see any footprints in the grass? You must have ran off behind the car so the foot prints do not show Or wait, was that snow? Quote
RobertKB Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 We had a very mild winter with no snow for a while. It has also been a very dry spring and the rain we had recently was the first in some time. Once the grass grows a bit more you might see footprints as I do love to drive barefoot. Quote

RobertKB Posted June 9, 2015 Author Report Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) OK, last car.......maybe. This is my '48 Dodge D25 Club Coupe. It is a Canadian model which is basically a Plymouth with Dodge trim. All Dodge trim is D25 and not the same as the American D24. Again I took the pictures in the same spot as the '38 Chrysler and '53 Plymouth and tried to replicate the angles the pictures were taken at. I had this car on stands all winter and I did a total rebuild of the entire brake system which included sleeving all cylinders and repacing all steel lines. Steel line replacement can be seen in another thread http://p15-d24.com/topic/37722-brake-lines-replace-or-not/?hl=%2Bbrake+%2Blines. It is sure nice to have it finished and back on the road! I did say maybe last car as I am working on a '51 Dodge D39 Business Coupe but it is likely at least 3 years away from completion. I also included a picture of my '48 Dodge when I started working on it many years ago now. The car as purchased in 1976. It has been painted twice since then. Edited June 9, 2015 by RobertKB Quote

But I don't blame you!!! You had me at Chrysler Royal Touring Sedan.... Wow, what a car!! Super collection!! Quote
bobostski Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 OK, where's the 51? And I think it should be "When your dead, someone else is going to drive it" Quote
RobertKB Posted June 10, 2015 Author Report Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) OK, not in the same location but here is the '51 Dodge D39 Business Coupe. Once again a Canadian car so it is really a Plymouth in Dodge clothing. I have included pictures of as found, fresh in the garage, and present condition. As bought two years ago. I knew about this car for 15 years but the owner would not sell. Suddenly, out of the blue, I get a phone call asking if I still wanted it as the owner had promised me first refusal. I needed another car like a hole in the head...........but I guess I needed a hole in the head. Present home. Moved from the field that had been its home for 15+ years to my garage. Present condtion. New floor welded in, front end rebuilt, rear axles inspected with all new seals done, underside cleaned and painted. I have also done things like remove and paint the dash including instrument cluster, rebuilt entire heating system and few other things. Next is a rebuild of the engine which is original to the car. I hope to have the car done is another 3 to 4 years which would make me close to or at 70. Plans are to drive this car to lots of places and use the huge trunk as my sleeping accomodation.
