Magnus Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 I have an issue with a engine that I have. I don't know what type of Flathead it can be and how old it is. The normal place at the left side at the top it blank. I have a some casting info and one sign on the right side. Anyone knowing? Quote
wayfarer Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 T-533 isn't on the 'usual' lists but the 534 is a 230....time to get out your tape measure and check the bore and stroke. Is it a 23" or 25"? Quote
Magnus Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) It's a 23" I have to check the bore stroke. Edited March 17, 2015 by Magnus Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 you need to only check the stroke regardless of bore due to the possible rebuild and cylinder clean up..the stroke will tell you if 218 or 230...use the removable access plug on cylinder 6 for this measurement Quote
Magnus Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 ok where can I find that access plug? Quote
DonaldSmith Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 If the head is already off, you don't need the access plug. Quote
lilyankee Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 have a 1949 dodge wayfarer is it good to flush out my engine or just change the oil Quote
55 Fargo Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 have a 1949 dodge wayfarer is it good to flush out my engine or just change the oil Depends on what your idea of flushing is? If you suspect a lot of sludge in the oil pan and rocker chambers, then clean those areas out, by dropping the oil pan, and pulling the side covers, and don't forget to clean the oil filter canister out too, if your engine is equipped so. Cooling system flush? again, if you suspect rust, crud and such, and have issues related to running hot, flush rad, and block, pull water distribution tube, and check it out, but that sometimes is easier said than done. Or if all above is not suspect, change oil, and run it for a few hundred miles, and drop it out and change. Please let us know what your dealing with? Is this engine running reliably right now?.......good luck Quote
