What size glass setting tape has everyone used when fitting door glass to bottom channel? Found many widths and thickness styles on line don't want to buy a bunch of each if I don't have to.   some sizes I have seen are  3/32  5/64   1/16  3/64

When I got replacement door glass cut for the '48 & '49 at the local auto glass shop, they did an OK job but must have been in a hurry to go fishing the day I picked up their work back in '04.  When I asked how to set the glass in the frames, the guy fished around in a box and tossed three mostly used rolls of tape at me, told me to use that, then left the shop area abruptly (lunch taco revenge, maybe?)  The tape was mostly stuck to itself, very hard to peel off and would tear easily, and really didn't stick as much as wedge the glass in the frames.  That glass never has set in the frames right, as winding the windows is still a two-handed chore sometimes assisted with creative german as the glass can get hung up in the door channel weatherstripping and come unseated from the frame.  But it's just as well as I need to disassemble those doors to clean them up sometime.  I would suggest contacting a local glass cutter, but ya might get the brushoff I got so who knows what the right answer might be

thanks for the reply,   Sounds like your glass guy could work here in West Virginia LOL    read that if  you use glass tape that you use a little mineral spirits to get it to slide into track and when the mineral spirits evaporate the tape tightens up.  The plan was to have some install the bulk of the glass but not the doors. I would try the doors myself over time since they will take a lot of time with vent windows and all.

Go to http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showline/offerpage.aspx?Productid=3300&GroupID=1677&History=39324:1497:1507&ModelID=1677 Type 720 into search for glass setting tape. 1/16" should be the right size. Use window cleaner as a lubricant on the glass and on the rail. Rail can be crimped slightly before install if it seems loose on glass. Rubber side of tape goes toward glass, cloth side toward rail. Good luck, Gary

Thanks for the great info and size recommendation   one place is where the window glass meets the regulator  track, the other would be where the wing window glass fits into its metal frame  then trim (as far as I can tell)
