Dan C Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Can anyone advise me on issues with buying complete rubber kits for a 46 club coupe? If you buy individual rubber for each area is the cost considerably more even if some of it does not work out? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 I have never seen a resealing body kit ever offered for these cars..there are so many items that would need be included in the package. Some items are also single source and the company there does not make a kit that I have seen offered anywhere anytime. IF another company marketed this single source items with the kit I assure you will be paying a handlers mark up. These older cars are not like some of the cars of the muscle car era where they are catered to in kit form such as you ask. Even at that, kits are usually multi packaged then also making purchased of various kits to complete a total rebuild. Robert Motors, Andy Bernbaum, Clesters and Steele are all sources...some parts made by one surpass that of another company..shape and curing hardness are items of great consideration. It would be best to call discuss this with the company selling the parts. A large order may get a discount if not in price..at least in shipping. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Tim is right........have never seen anyone offer a complete set. A fellow named Dave Cruse offers some smaller parts like gas tank filler neck grommet and several other P15 smaller things. Steele Rubber Co offers a very good windshield gasket and a cowl vent gasket, among other things......they are not cheap but are good. For doors, there may be some universal rubber strips as opposed to the exact original configuration.....but one needs to search those out. Quote
Andydodge Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Maybe it was because I'm a poor sod living in Oz but I ordered a cowl vent rubber seal/gasket from Steele Rubber a few yrs ago for the 1941 Plymouth coupe and got one that was the correct overall shape but completely incorrect in the actual profile, I emailed and PHONED them regarding this and they maintained I didn't know what I was talking about............I ended up using it as wall art and got a correct profiled one from either Bernbaums or Roberts, can't remember which co. now........I would not go near Steele ........which is a shame but I'd ordered from their paper catalog and what I rec'd came in a packet with the as listed number on the packet but was incorrect.............my 10cents Oz........7 cents US.........Andy Douglas Quote

Niel Hoback Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 When I bought all my window gaskets and other rubber parts from Roberts, I had a Steele catalogue also. Each part I ordered was exactly, to the penny, twice as much at Steele as Roberts. I suspected then, and still do, that they get their stuff from the same place and add their own mark-up, which, in Steeles case, twice as much as Roberts. I am very satisfied with the Roberts products and will not hesitate to use them again. I do not work for Roberts or receive any benefits from them. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 I know for certain that different companies extrude their own rubber..some of the products are not formed right by some companies..sometimes the very rubber is too hard to be of use as it will not allow the trunk to close without standing proud...I use Clesters as much as I can, his rubber is a tad tad softer when it comes to door and trunk seals. I use Roberts otherwise and Steele for that part that just can't be had otherwise..I am disappointed at least 50% of the time with Steele..I believe that with the very high cost and arm breaking pats on the back they give themselves I should get a better product that I usually receive. It is a shop around experience most of the time... Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 I tried Clester' s on my last project and was disappointed in the fit and correctness of the profiles of the 3 pieces I ordered. One I couldn't use at all, one I had to modify to make it usable, and the last was usable as it came, not great, just usable. I'm sure some of their products fit well for their intended application. Finding correct fitting product seems to be trial and error and vender with correct product for one application may not have the correct product for a different application. Quote
JD luxury liner Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 Metro rubber products. If you can find parts thru rockauto with metro part #s you can get pretty good prices , Good luck. I had a bad experience with Roberts on some front suspension rubber !! Quote
