Young Ed Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 You beat me too it. Honestly though after seeing how nice that bumper is after cleaning I wonder how much of that is just silt and how much rust. Perhaps there is a car under that gunk. Quote

dmulhall Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 a little "rusteze" should take that out.. too bad...hope the guys are having fun down there.. Dave Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Looks like to me they should have put some cosmolin on the exterior of the car or should I say the whole thing should have been dunked in a pool of it. Kind of reminds me of some old cars I have seen here between some trees in the back of a junk yard. Oh well maybe next time they'll do this, they will have there act together and do it right. Jon PS. Would be interesting to see them take this car and restore it back to what it was when it was placed in this tomb. Quote
PatS.... Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I noticed on the TV coverage that when they opened the trunk that part of the inner trunk lid metal was laying on the items in the trunk and the guy had to take it out. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I just went and looked at a few over again. The tops of the fenders look solid and those things went right away on these cars. Quote
oldmopar Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I just went and looked at a few over again. The tops of the fenders look solid and those things went right away on these cars. I was thinking the same thing I owned a 59 Plymouth back in 68 my 1st car and then it was only 9 years old and I remember putting some silver metal tape on the top of the fender that was rusted back then. 62rebelP23 Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 i had a '57 Dodge hardtop like that a few years back. it looked better than the time capsule car, but was still rougher than a corncob. now i'm starting to MISS that car.... '63 chrysler 383 and torqueflite...mmmmmm... Quote
Johnny S Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 A great time was had by all. Photos tomorrow. Tired now. Miss Belvedere was just a "bit" rusty but spirits remained high and the fun factor was up there too. My guess is that unless they figure out how to engage some serious conservation efforts quickly to stabilize her she will start to melt down a lot more than she already has ..... and soon. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Johnny, it was nice meeting you and seeing your car. This event was certainly good for bringing together a lot of old Plymouth people from across the country. Bob Quote
Johnny S Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Bob, I enjoyed meeting you as well. You have a very nice car. Let's do another one of these again some day soon and get a group photo to boot. Yes, this was a PLYMOUTH show. About 100 Plymouth Prowlers, I would guess about 25-35 (more?) 57-58 Plymouth's and Dodge's. I doubt if anyone will soon see so many finned cars in one place again for a while. And many more Plymouth's, Dodge's, and more than a handful of DeSoto's and Chrysler's mixed in. I think there were about 10 P15, P17, P18, P20's in the open show. And the Invitational show had some great cars as well as you might expect. This was one show where we easily could say "Chevy? (or Ford?).....do they still make cars?". I only had one guy come by and say....."I hated Plymouth's" and by the time I was done with him he recanted....willingly. :-) Othewise it was "Wow...look at those cars....I learned to drive in an old Plymouth just like that....you are looking at HISTORY there.....remember when we made it in the back of one of those.....thanks for bringing your car.....those engines are smooth and sweet......I got in a LOT of trouble in one of those.....etc. It was a very rewarding experience. By the way....the couple that made the comment about "making it" in the back of a Plymouth didn't quite realize that they were being overheard....at least I don't think they realized they were. It was one of the many spontaneous remarks made that just reinforced why we do this. We do it for ourselves for sure but we also do it for the benefit of others as well. I'm sure there will be some Mopar converts who will one day emerge because of the Tulsa show. Quote
