Oil Pump ?

Does the oil pump have anything to do with timing other then turning the distributor? Someone told me the pump itself need to be put in a certain way.

only if you wish to maintain the correct alignment per the pictures in the book..it makes for proper benchmarking..as long as you know it is TDC #1 and you have the rotor positioned and wiring indexed to the cap in proper firing order and rotation you will have no problems except the fact you must remember that it is off by however much it is..going by the book just makes life a bit simpler is all..

My 52 had number one pointed toward 5 o'clock for a long time. When I had the pan off I changed it to match what it should be.  Still ran the same.

Speaking of oil pumps, where does one get an o-ring for the pump cover?

The "O" ring in profile is actually a square, am not sure whether it would be available by itself but I'd check the usual parts places, Bernbaums, Roberts, Mitchells and various other places you guys have access to........andyd
