Hello I purchased a 1948 dodge 2 door coupe and all my guages work except my Speedo any way of fixing it or anything in particular I should look at? And also my front driver spring seems to bee sagging I want to replace both sides, how do I go about removal? Do I need a spring compressor or can I remove my bottom a-arm?

What does it do/not do? Is it inaccurate or just doesn't move at all?

that was four questions by the way....

speedo can be removed and bench tested...first ensure that the cable is not broken or binding..and lube the speedo head top of brass block where there is a small wick..

no compressor needed for the spring but you will have to jack the car up in order to allow the spring to extend slowly as you release in by way of a hydraulic jack ..a compressor will make lowering by jack unnecessary but be sure you still have a safety in place as these can still slide on the coils...

I do suggest if you do not have the book for this car at least check on a general suspension repair section of a modern manual with coil springs for procedure and safety cautions

Check the cable and if its not broken you probably need a new one.

Be aware of the set screw on the back of the speedometer ! it tightens against the flats of the cable, and I found out about it the hard way.

Springs are easy to remove. Jack up the front, place two jack stands under the frame on the flat part behind firewall, lower onto jack stands. Remove the sway bar brackets on lower control arm, and pull out the ends. Place floor jack under lower control arm near the spindle side, and lift enough to relieve spring pressure. Remove lower pin, which is threaded with a nut. Lower jack, and remove spring. 1.5 to 2 hour job tops.

I recently changed springs and used Ford Aerostar springs, after reading several members' success with them. I too highly recommend them !
