skchandler Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 So I now have an original ignition and key in the dash. I have two different locks and a different lick for trunk. Does anyone know if I can rekey the doors and trunk? It would be nice to get her back to the original and have just one key. Thanks Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 IF your same key will fit the tumblers of each lock..then yes..you can rekey them all to be the same..I do not think the glove box and trunk is same blank as the ign. and door lock... Quote
skchandler Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Thank you adams. With a rekey kit I should be able to do this myself? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Originally, you would have two keys, one for the doors and ignition, a one for the trunk and optional glovebox lock. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Does your ignition key fit into the locks on the doors and the trunk ? If so , you can probably change the pins in those locks . Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 if you have access to a number of tumblers you can arrange them as needed to match the key..you can also file these to fit... Quote
skchandler Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 I do, thank you for the information Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 As a kid one of my old furd field racers did not have a key. So I used a hacksaw to cut the top off the locks and removed all the tumblers. By doing so one key (any key) fit all. Or one screwdriver, pocket knife, paper clip, etc. fit all. 1 Quote
Mark D Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Lock sets pop up on ebay all the time. Fairly easy to swap out from what I can tell. I've got an oddball lock in the drivers side door, been meaning to do this myself. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1947-1948-Dodge-Plymouth-Chrysler-DeSoto-Door-and-Ignition-Locks-original-NOS-/380893003542?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item58aefdff16&vxp=mtr Quote

skchandler Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Jerry & Neil My key does fit the locks and trunk. It would be nice to have one key for all. Quote
