Jeff.P_46 Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Just curious where/how the original vent drain tube was run? Jeff Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 on mine it went through the interior compartment but did a quick curve back out through the firewall.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Right-o Tim. Then there was some sort of clamp that attached to the engine side of the firewall to hold Mr. Hose in place. It was a black rubber hose of the correct inside diameter to slip over that neck coming from the bottom of the vent. I used a clear plastic tube because it was handy, and made a clamp for the firewall. Didn't have such a thing for the past 30 years and it was not a big problem. But it can be important if you get caught in the rain. You can see the clear hose in this pic. I think it tells the correct inside diameter needed in the factory parts manual. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Tim, Mine is the same way. A pipe coming out of the firewall, then a rubber hose on it. I just bought a new hose that I could slip over the pipe. That's the way the old one was. No need for a clamp or anything, the water just goes on the ground and there is no pressure there. Sort of like the gutter downspout on your house. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Here's the fresh air heater version of the drain. Quote
Normspeed Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 By 1953 they had perfected the cowl vent. They eliminated the drain hose so any water leaks travel directly to the area over your feet then drip down, finally exiting through the rust holes in the floor. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Hmmmm......either I had forgotten about that elbow, or mine was long gone years ago. Not sure I ever recall seeing that. But it makes sense.....to allow that hose to turn a corner. I see it has a ring around each end for the hose to seat against. I think that actually means there are two lengths of hose involved -- from bottom of vent to firewall and elbow; then on from the elbow under the hood. That probably explains why I thought the length of hose mentioned in the book seemed too short. This only proves that no topic is too dumb or mundane for a discussion. Thanks for the info, guys. Tom Skinner Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Roberts Auto Parts sells one. Remember to specify a Hose 3 feet Long. That will get you through the Firewall and down to the Frame Area, where you need it to be. Tom Quote
