Went to swapmeet at Zephyrhills, FL

Today (Thurs)  Quite a few vendors, but many were sellers of tools and other new items.  They outnumbered individual sellers of misc old parts scrounged from the garage.  Did not find a single person with anything for a P15.

Still fun to go but too bad you couldn't score any Mopar parts. This seems to be the trend at a lot of swapmeets, lots of vendors selling new stuff as a business and less and less old parts. I keep saying, get your project and parts now for working on down the road. This old stuff is getting crushed or bought up quickly.

Only thing I bought was a new pair of the stainless steel wing window "breezies" to replace a set I used to have.

I may get time to go again on Sat -- as not all vendor spaces were occupied and sellers were still coming in.

Some nice cars of various brands i the corral.....was one P15 two seat coupe that had been "street rodded".

I thought they did good as they retained original trim and dash.

I quit going to swap meets looking for old mopar stuff. Just go for the social aspect of it......

You drive one of those other cars and you can find lots of stuff. Nice to be different.

Right.....the old mopar stuff is normally pretty scarce.  Sometimes you find one or maybe two guys with something useful.....some times not.

I encountered a fellow at the Springfield, MO swap this summer who sells on ebay...including ome car parts.    He had a few P15 items for

a dollar each as he was trying to clean out a shed at home.   So I helped lessen his stash.  Didn't really need the items, but you never

know..............

Surprisingly, I live in an area where there is lots of Mopar stuff at swapmeets. Not as much as Chev and Ford, but still quite a bit. I think there must have been some very good dealers in this area. The car club I belong to has a lot of old Chrysler products in it as well.

I went to the swap meet at Cruisin the Coast in Mississippi last month. Absolutely zero mopar parts there. But if you had a bel air, you could purchase at every vendor there. Makes parts hard to find, but I'd rather have my plymouth. It's nice to be odd.. And being odd is something I know well!

Well......did not go today to swap.  Think I will go tomorrow ( Sun)  morning,     Vendors will be tearing down but will ignore the "commercial"

ones and look for individuals.

Carolina collector car autofest, sat., 11/16 in Raleigh, nc. lots of vendors for this area, but you needed a chevy to buy anything in car parts. I always pick up small items from the tool guys.this show charged spectators $10 to enter. most of the local shows here have no entry fee for spectators.this show is not big enough to warrant this in my opinion. kept all my family members from coming by who live in the area.this show has been getting smaller every year and this is just one of the reasons.they also only had 2 food guys, hamburger and something else. I could list other problems with the way it was run, but I do like the indoor arena for the cars.there is a big flea market on the property that runs every weekend, and food is available there.there were no early mopars except one 1948 Desoto, my 54 Windsor, and a 55 Windsor with a 2009 hemi in it.the guy running the car show did not like the way my car was parked, so he got in it, started it, and was ready to move it when I walked up.needless to say, I immediately told him to get out of the car, which he did. he only wanted it moved over about 2 feet, and it was really unnecessary to do what he did. guess he thought an old survivor,1954 Chrysler is fair game. would he have done that to a restored 1969 Camaro? no way! at any rate, he was polite after that. not sure if I will go back next year. capt den

If you mean Flatla Auto Wrecking in Tilley, Alberta, no I am not. It is about a 2 hour drive from me but might be worth a trip when the weather improves. I guess that could mean next year. LOL

Woke up this morning (Sun) not feeling too great---so decided to not bother going back to the swap.  Probably didn't miss much.

When looking thru the car corral Thursday - saw one nice P15 coupe that has been resto-rodded;  a "tin woodie" 51 or so Chrysler

wagon and some little newer Mopars.  Also found a local paint shop with a P15 coupe sitting beside the building.  Probably has a V8

in it but haven't gotten by there again for a closer look.

So far  I have entered a  total of 1 car show, and will probably not enter anything in any more. Cost me 25 bucks to enter my 39 IHC D-2 pickup in a local show, and they put me way the hell out on the back row and not within 50 feet of any other cars. My D-2 is a "barn find" original and isn't real shiny, and isn't even cool enough for the rat-rodders,who go right up front. More rat rodders than anybody else around here, and they are all flat black with lots of chrome.

I have better things to do with my 25 dollars and my time.

knuckle, my club gives out survivor awards for a vehicle like yours and we are glad to have you at the show. you park with all the others in order of your arrival.my experience has been that the survivors get almost as much attention as the most highly restored cars.car guys love them. wish more would attend.look up suncoast cruisers for our calendar, we are in Wilmington,nc. capt den

I love originals and survivors and as far as I am concerned, they should have the places of honour! Lots of hotrods, trailer queens, and too many satin black ratrods. If it isn't a 350 Chevy in everything is is ratrod black. Give me a survivor any time!!

I live up near Kitty Hawk, but driving my old IHC to Wilmington may be too much of a challenge right now. The head is so warped that oil actuall leaks out between the head and the block. I didn't think such a thing was possible, but it is.  I have now found and bought a new headgasket, and as soon as I get caught up on my "gotta do's" I will be getting the head milled. I am still shocked it runs on all 6 cylinders, but it does. I also need to drop the base pan,the timing gear cover, and the valve covers to replace all those gaskets, too. If it has oil or grease in this truck,it leaks. The guy I bought it from in ND bought it in Mn in 1973,and had to cut down trees to move it to where he could load it on his trailer. All he had done to it since then was shimming the bearings.

Plus I need to put new door glasses in it before I drive it very far. The ones in it when I bought the truck shook themselves to pieces on the trip from ND to NC.

Me,too. I've been like that all my life. I would run right past a show car at swap meets to look at the project cars on trailers. Survior cars have history. Somebody thought enough of them to keep them around all this time instead of going for the quick buck of selling them for scrap metal.

One really surprising thing about my old truck is the damn thing rides and drives like a new one. Not the least bit of vibration in the steering wheel, and it tracks as straight and true as a new one with no looseness at all.

Probably the most surprising thing is I can cruise right along at 55 MPH with the head so warped oil leaks past on both sides. I'm hoping to cruise at 60 after milling the head. (G)

I agree with RobertKB. I walk past anything that has been aborted. If a person wants to put a chevy engine in a Plymouth that is their business. I will walk right past it. The only changes I consider ok is when it is done for safety. A dual master cylinder or disc brake conversion for added stopping. Or radial tires for extra handling. Adding seat belts to a car that did not have them.

I have been in many car shows with my car. I feel they are all rigged! A judge is going to vote for the car he likes. If he favors a chevy or ford he going to judge so they win.

I did have a good experience with my Plymouth at a Ford Club car show. The judge inspected my car, moved on then came back to look again. He did this 3 times. I won first prize over a chevy. The fact that he kept checking thing between the two cars, proved he did a fair job of judging.

I still like to go to car shows and I often show my car. When the judge comes by I simply say no thanks and he moves on.

I was heading for the Zeph. Hills meet but felt poorly, didn't make it. A friend said it was a newer parts event but you never know when you can find something you don't need but want!

In the future I plan to check out the Webster Swap meet in Webster Fl. They have an excellant motorcycle swap day once a month and I'm told a car date also. The motorcycle is ALL about the older parts (no sunglasses and leather vests booths) hahahaha!! When I get there I'll get back and let the Fla members know if its the real deal or just fluff!

Went to Webster this past Monday----regular flea market day.   Man, that place is huge.

Didn't see any useful (to me) car items.    But an automotive day might be a deal,

I used to go regularly to the motorcycle meet up until about 6 years ago. I was involved in a very bad accident 3 1/2 years ago and I doubt I could walk the isles at the meet now but I'm still going to try. You have a great chance of finding older parts there especially Harley Davidson Knuckle, Pannies and Shovel pieces.

They still have live stock auctions there also it is a great place to remember a simpler time with real people doing business with each other.

Again I will get some up to date info on the car swap date.

Tomorrow I'm going to check on a group that meets in North Port Fl (my residence) most are snow birds but I was told theres a few down here already. In a few more weeks they should all be down and the group is supposed to consist of about 35 car owners with cars from 1932 up to 1955!!!

They meet every Wednesday morning and I'm hoping to gain some knowledge from them about my coupe.

BobT are you wintering in FLA? Doc
