John Reddie Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 The dash looks like it could be a Plymouth, possibly a '37 or '38 but not positive. Interesting steering wheel and maybe an aftermarket horn ring. What do you think? John R Quote
greg g Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) Here is a 37 Plymouth from across the pond. Looks similar. But the vert wouldn't have had the wood grain. Edited October 27, 2013 by greg g Quote
Robert Horne Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 The dash looks like my 37 sedan. my 38 does not have the tilt out windshield like the 37. Quote
58prostreet Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 The horn ring wheel would appear after market or it is broken. It is off center. Bob. Quote
John Reddie Posted October 28, 2013 Author Report Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks for the responses. I am thinking that it a '37 Plymouth with a delete piece where the windshield crank would be were it a coupe or sedan. John R Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 The window 37 Ply. crank handle folds over and down and appears just round when folded. The two round metal parts just below and slightly spread and two slide out ashtrays, too cool! Looks just like my 37 Bus. cpe from many years ago. Sure wish I had it now. The steer wheel I can't say. What was on it when I bought it and was replaced with the best one I could find at a wrecking yard that had quite a few old dodges and ply.s years ago. All were cruched about 1974, new owner. Quote
hendo0601 Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 It is odd that the banjo wheel and the horn ring arent centered on each other, perhaps it is a trick of the camera? I know it was mentioned before but something about that just doesnt seem original. I am not really familiar with these particular cars, but it almost looks like a spotlight handle just above the spokes on the left of the steering wheel? Cool picture, nonetheless...with the camera technology back then I can just imagine someone sitting on the boot trying not to fall off and work the shutter LOL Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Upon enlarging the original picture some, it looks like a Mopar type inside sun visor and rear view mirror, Yes, it does appear to have a spotlight handle and probably a spot behind the windshield post. If you look closely - it seems that the topmost horn ring is attached to the original horn center with a screw. They were trying to fancy things up. Good old pic, thanks. Quote
hendo0601 Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 So I am not crazy!!! I thought that looked like a spotlight handle!! Whew...that makes me feel better about all these grey hairs popping up all over the place. Also the shifter knob doesnt look factory, so we can safely say this vehicle has some custom touches to it. Also, I found this picture on the google machine...the dash and steering wheel (minus horn ring) and seats all match...it's a 37 plymouth droptop. http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=jX2-3ogHs4YJIM&tbnid=V-jK018auQF6IM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.allcarcentral.com%2FPlymouth_pix-8.html&ei=ixpvUrb7GamZiQKs6YH4CQ&bvm=bv.55617003,d.cGE&psig=AFQjCNF9GlADVKvSkS_wUwMTNoxK2bMBeA&ust=1383099397584032 Quote
Furylee2 Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) That top knob doesn’t really look like the crank for the windshield, but maybe on the convertible they didn’t feel it was necessary for the windshield to crank out. The first picture is the dash of a 37 Plymouth coupe I took in Tucson this spring. The second picture is a shot of my dash in my 37 sedan. I don’t have two ashtrays, the one on the left of the radio is the lighter, the right is the ashtray. Note the differences in the knobs, my early model has the pull drawers. John Reddie Posted October 29, 2013 Author Report Posted October 29, 2013 Yes the Plymouth convertibles in that era did not feature the crank open windshield like the sedans and coupes did. As was stated earlier, after the '37 models, all of the windshields were fixed and didn't open. I did see a '38 sedan in the Plymouth Bulletin that belongs to a man overseas that had a crank open windshield. I wrote to Jim Benjaminson and he checked into it and felt that it possibly could have been an export model. All '38 Plymouths as well as the other Chrysler product cars that I have actually seen had fixed windshields. John R Quote
