De Soto Frank Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 For those guys running MoPar sixes with the Sisson electromagnetic choke, does anyone know how thick the insulating gasket between the choke-body and exhaust manifold should be?Thanks ! Frank McM. Quote
Solution _shel_ny Posted July 31, 2013 Solution Report Posted July 31, 2013 my replacement gasket is .067 Quote
De Soto Frank Posted July 31, 2013 Author Report Posted July 31, 2013 Thanks, Shel ! What kind of material does it appear to be made from ? (ie: is it some sort of heat insulator, or more of an anti-squeak ?) Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 Frank Contact me. I made some just from a Heat resistance gasket material that I got from NAPA. These are not the stamped out die cut style I cut them by hand and they will work for your use since you have a driver car and not a show car. Plymouthy Adams Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 Garlock....that was the trade name long ago on gasket material intended for this purpose..am sure there are many other trade names..this one just might be enough to allow you to search the right material.. Quote

Heat insulator to keep the bi-metal spring from having direct contact with the exhaust manifold. Stiff sandwiched gasket. Quote
Roadkingcoupe Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 were the original gaskets asbestos? Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 I wouldn't be surprised. Asbestos was still regarded as a miracle mineral back then and could be found everywhere. Quote
harrybuffalo Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 ASBESTOS still is a miracle material and, contrary to popular belief, it is NOT banned by the EPA. It is still used in many materials like gaskets, brake lining, and insulation... Quote

De Soto Frank Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) I picked -up a sheet of "core-bestos" material from my local "mom'n'pop" jobber; it is a perforated steel core, coated / impregnated with an asbestos-like fibre material. It is about 3/32" thick. An 11" x 28" sheet was $15. The sort of stuff you would use to make intake/exhaust gaskets or exhaust flange gaskets... ... or Sisson choke gaskets... Thanks to everyone for your replies ! Edited August 2, 2013 by De Soto Frank Quote
