Jeff Balazs Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Anybody here have experience with these products? I have the idea to use the ceramic insulation material on my firewall and floor as the first step in insulating my truck. I would really like to get real world feedback from someone who has applied it. Thanks, Jeff Quote
Dave72dt Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Working on it. Hopefully this week I'll be appying some of the sound insulation variety. I know there are two types, sound and heat and if appying both, one type is supposed to go on first. Takes a special gun to spray it and it's not supposed to go over bare metal. Don't know if you need to scuff slick paint or not to give it something to hold onto. I'm going over a primer. How well it works? Don't know, my first time using it. I've seen it done on TV and looks simple and the examples for soundproofing appear to do well also. I'm going to find out. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted May 28, 2013 Author Report Posted May 28, 2013 Hi Dave; As I understand it ...... it is a waterborne acrylic product. I saw the gun but would think it could be applied by brush or roller as well? I would like to find out more. I don't have any bare metal so that should no be a problem. I would like to find out about adhesion properties though. I was thinking that as a first stage in my cab insulation process this might really be a good start. I think I read somewhere that the ceramic material goes on first followed by the sound material. Maybe I will call the factory and see what else I can find out. Jeff Quote
TheMoose Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Saw something like this on the Muscle car show on power block on SpikeTV last weekend. Looked like they scuffed the paint & then applied it. Quote
greg g Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I remember a product by 3m called body shootz. It was like a thick rubberized undercoating, it sayed flexible but was paintable, it was also high build and self leveling. It was like a cross between pick up bed lier and the gravel shield they used to put on the rockers and renders back inthe years when the fenders curled under. It was easy to apply and worked for noise and heat. Needed a special gun which just screwed onto the top of the product can, which was sold ready to use. Used to run about 18 bucks for a quart can, probably twice that these days if still available, but probly less than lizard skin and or similar. http://3mcollision.com/products/sound-deadening/3m-no-cleanup-high-coverage-body-schutz-coating-08964.html http://3mcollision.com/3m-rust-fighter-i-08891.html Edited May 28, 2013 by greg g Quote
