I had excellent results with an air cleaner. I'd never had been able to get into all the nooks and crannies of that thing using my usual wire brush method.

 

Other than a bit of a hassle to do the setup, it is my preferred method of rust removal now. No issues with damaging the part if you leave it in too long. No issues with toxic chemicals. No physical labor involved. Very easy clean up. Cheap. Lots of things going for it.

 

Just don't connect the battery charger backwards!
