DCurrent Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Hey gang, I took the old girl out today for a spin. Boy that felt good! My heater works good. Anyway, last year my mirrors were driving me crazy because they move a lot. I have the type that just fix on to the front of the door skin by two set screws. I'm sure you all are familiar with what I'm referring to. My problems with them are, they move around from the wind blowing on them, and the passengers mirror has a stem that is too straight. It doesn't allow me to see a darn thing because it is forward too far. I have to lean way over to see out of it only to find it's pointed to the ground. LOL I like the style of them and want to find a set that looks similar. I have seen where they have more of a bend in them so they are brought back to be seen in the vent window. My questions are; 1. Has anyone bought a set that they are happy with that don't move around? 2. Where did you get them? 3. How did these car come from the factory when it came to the mirrors? 4. Were both sides fitted with the mirrors having the same stem? Thanks, Darren Quote
Young Ed Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 I like the so-cal swan neck mirrors I put on mine. The pass side one is hard to adjust but if you get it just right you can see somewhat. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Do you have a picture of that mirror on your car, Ed? Robin, in London, put that style on his convert so he could see while driving "on the wrong side of the road". I think he is happy with them. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 I bought my replacement mirrors several years ago at JC Whitney for about fifteen bucks each. Quote

DCurrent Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 Now why the heck didn't that thread show up when I did a search on it? In order to research a thread don't you type a key word in the right hand corner box? I can't see how that would change. I think those mirrors look great. The problem with a convertible is that it has no post to attach the mirrors that Don has posted. In fact his look close to what I have now. They are fastened just above the stainless side molding, and again are just too hard to see out of. The price is a little more than I wanted to spend, but they look like they of good quality with stainless post and mirror backing. Quote
T120 Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 These are the mirrors I have fitted on my 48 Dodge. They are door edge mounted. They don't move around.I believe they are original to the car and were installed by the dealer, although they not MoPar mirrors. They are US manufacture and were on the car when I bought it.I've seen the same mirrors fitted on other vehicles of around the same age.I added the bubbles. While not perfect they work okay for me.They probably could be found at a swap meet or on ebay... Jim Yergin Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 On my '41 Plymouth I have the side mirrors that go where the trim strips would otherwise be on the cowl. I like the look but while the driver's side works, you cannot see the passenger side mirror from the driver's seat. I believe Jay Fischer reproduces the mirrors. Jim Yergin Quote
