jpellican Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I am checking on satisfation with purchasing firewall pads for b3B, considering buy cardboard style for $85 not sure if i want to put $200 in the firewall. I see that roberts has the cardboard style and quite ride has the ABS style also checked with dodge central and they say the also have the ABS style. Interested your opinions on these. I see form past posts that some have purchased quite ride ABS products have any purchased any from Dodge central. What are your opinons on the cardboard style? Thanks Joe Quote
ggdad1951 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I got the cardboard style from Roberts. Very satisfied with it. I sprayed the back of it with lacquer to seal it so it shouldn't warp as much as it could. I think regardless of the style you get, it's NOT easy to install with all the stuff going on under the dash. I think the cardboard would be MUCH easier to modify (razor knife to cut and awl for hole locations) than the ABS. Your feet normally don't get up that far so damaging the cardboard version seems like a Trojan horse argument. The original was cardboard and was not damaged from feet...mice and trats on the other hand.... Quote
52b3b Joe Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I put a cardboard styled one in my truck. It worked out good. I painted it brown to match the brown interior. I don't have any experience with the others. I figured the ABS ones are tougher and will last longer, but I figured this is a Sunday driver that will at worst see rain and will be well taken cared for. I really wanted the Quiet Ride but I can't afford it at this time. The cardboard is fine if you want to save a little money. I'm happy with it. I ordered from Roberts. Quote
MBF Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I used dynamat and painted it flat black. Cheap, not original, but it works well and surely is durable. It made a great deal of difference the cab head and noise. Mike Quote
pflaming Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Lowes and others have a silver bubble wrap that plumbers often use around air ducts. It comes in 24" rolls. I glued that to some flooring insulation, painted the visible surface flat black and installed. I used it through out the cab. It is both an insulation and a sound barrier. Cost per roll was around $20. I used two rolls. Since it has a pattern is gives a nice 'industrial' look. I haven't tried to post pics yet but there is a full thread on what I did, (somewhere). Quote
