I am looking into possibly tubbing out my 48 Club Coupe. It needs enough work on the rear anyhow, including new suspension etc. I want fat rubber under it. I have 275/60/15bfg's on it now in "roller" status. They clear enough to garage roll, but street use wouldn't even be close. I need all new springs and etc anyhow, SO I am considering a Competition engineering rear frame kit and a 4 link. Has anyone done this yet? Pics would be great. I WOULD like to keep my rear seat if possible. Thanks,Jason

I have had this Oz 1940 Dodge Sedan since 1971 and its had 15x10" rear wheels since 1975........the rear fenders are widened 2" all round by me, it uses the stock 1940 rear springs and an Oz Ford Falcon unnarrowed diff......rear tyres are 275/65 x 15 T/A Radials and they clear fine........I'd only go with tubbs if you have the ability or access to someone who has to mount it all properly...........regards, andyd

Tubbing is meant for really fat tires in most cases. The Comp Eng back half you want to install is meant for 21x33x15 or 19.50x33x15 MT tires.

You want to keep the backseat so I would look into maybe moving the leafs inboard. I had an 8" Ford under my 50 wagon with 15x10 and they fit. You might even look into just getting a rear narrowed for the tires and set up that with a newer suspension, springs ,shocks etc. It will be cheaper than tearing out the whole interior and floor.

The frame and the fender ID is the limiting factor to wheel/tire width. The springs are below the frame and the inside well is flush with the frame. So,....if you "tub it" ya gotta modify or replace the frame rails in that area. And,... that therefore incroaches into the back seat space.

I have run both 245 and 255 wide tires on my car with no mods. to frame or sheet metal. 255's will work on paper. However, you must have every dimension exact and on center, (underline exact and on center) and have a panhard bar, and,.....put up with some rubbing on diagonal grade changes.

I finally gave up and went with the 245's. They still look plenty meaty and I don't get those funny looks from passengers when entering my driveway. :o

I narrowed my 47 about 4" on each side. Since I'm using an Explorer 8.8 I narrowed it to the Explorer spring width. I don't have any frame pictures as that was on my old puter that crashed. I do have an interior pictures that shows the new wheel wells. Being a coupe, it DID NOT interfere with my rear seat at all.

I have never tubbed a vehicle but I am trying to fit a 37 Coupe onto

a Ranger frame, 1995 2wd long bed. Fit very good so far....

The 95 is bent, so have a second frame on hand if this fits..so, cut, cut , cut..

56 Dodge flathead/TK5 five speed Ranger trans waiting in the back of

the shop.

The Ranger has a much narrow rear frame compared to the Plymouth,

should have plenty of room for FAT tires/wheels....

The Ranger has a much narrow rearend, about 2 inch, compared to my

Plymouth.

My wife's Explorer have 255/70-16 tires, should be a good fit,,,

Look out Honey:eek::eek::eek:

Now if I can just find another Explorer spare tire/wheel, I would have two.....

this one has been in the album on the main page since the forum got cranked up a few year back. Don;t know if it ever got finished but it looks like what you are trying to do. Looks like the rear fenders were stretched a bit also.

That looks like a car I paid a visit to and pictured in Elizabethtown. Kentucky way back in 2001, 2002. I stopped to see it on a trip north and I never heard from the owner again. Dont know if it was ever finished.
