I have the Desoto 1936-40 Master parts manual. If you can send me the part number out of your 40 Chrysler parts book I can see if my master catalog has the same number and then check to see if there is a picture of the clip and then scan the picture for you. Since 40 Desoto is similar to 40 Chrysler we might be in luck. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com
Andydodge
Rich, as mentioned in the PM we don't have zip....lol........so we need someone with a Chrysler to chime in..........still, really appreciate the offer........thanks, andyd
eh dubya
Andy, here's a picture from the Restoration Specialties & Supply catalog. My 39 Plymouth ones are similar but I opted for plastic ones that were listed on ebay for 56 Plymouth. The original style tend to cut through any paint protection on the edge of the hole, cool if you're into weeping rust stains below your trim -Andy (Plymouth)
Andydodge
EHDubya..thanks but they are not the ones we need I think.......lol.........I have both a 1940 Dodge and a 1941 Plymouth and those appear to be the same clips that are used to hold the chrome moldings on the SIDE of the 1940 Dodge, on either side of the hood opening handles, those pictured insert into holes in the sheetmetal........what we need a pic of is the clips that hold the GRILLE moldings on a 1940 CHRYSLER, on the VERY FRONT ..........they have a pressed steel sheetmetal grille panel with stainless/chromed bars which are held onto the sheetmetal by small clips........these clips appear to fit inside the chromed moldings and then are PRESSED onto the bottom of the sheetmetal stamping.........we want a pic of THESE CLIPS.......thanks, Andy Douglas.....the pain in the arse from Sth Grafton NSW Australia

HughForrest
This might be a little late (I'm not around here much), but may be of use to some future Mopar archeologist:
Andydodge
Hugh, thanks for the posting, tho' I don't suppose tou'd have a pic of the actual grille bars that fit at the very front AND a pic of the clips or whatever is used to attach the stainless/chrome molding strips onto the pressed metal of the grille stamping?.........many thanks, andyd
40P10touring sedan
Yeah, decent 40 chrysler pics are hard to find on the web....a friend has a 40 chry gauge/speedo assembly with turn signals for me but I don't know what I'd do with it. HughForrest
Andy- Unfortunately that page is as close as my book comes to answering your question. I believe some models/years had sort of "Mini Parts Books" with more model-specific exploded views of this kind of stuff though.
Andydodge
Hugh, no worries, this is for my mate, lol.......thought we'd had a win with the listing on Restoration Specialties but when I rang them last week........"nope, we haven't had those 1941 clips for years.......".........oh well.........andyd
Roadkingcoupe
Do you have a 1940 Chrysler Parts Book? Part # 898734. They look the same as a 1941 Plymouth grill clip however they are larger and measure 7/8" x 39/64". Enclosed is a scan from the parts book, found in the COOLING section not the body section. Funny because hood ornaments are also listed under cooling (a throw back from the mascot era). The photograph shows the 1941 Plymouth clips (similar). In 1941 Chryslers were equiped with a pot metal grill molding that no longer used this style of clip. Plymouth still used this style clip in 1941. These clips are hard to find and when rusted lose their ability to firmly hold the molding to the sheetmetal grill. The good news is that the 1940 clips are often mistakingly purchased for 41's and you might find some under the mislabeled 1941 title. Expect to pay $3-$4 a piece. Hope that helps. HughForrest
Now that Roadking told me where to look I found it in my Chrysler book. For 1940 Chrysler the correct part number is the 885061, and it looks the same in my book as in Roadking's.
