My son's truck springs are FLAT, horizontal to the floor.Question: Which is preferred, new springs or retension them? Looks like I'm going to be working next week on a chevy, no less. It's family so I guess it's ok.

Not disagreeing but was curious as to why you recommend buying new springs as opposed to rearcing the ones he has? I am faced with the same situation on my 48 and have gotten a quote of $325.00 for rearcing, however I have not priced new springs. What is the cost of a new set of front springs?

To do the job right the springs should be re-heat treated after being re-arched and a lot of spring shops don't have the equipment to do that. That said, I've been very happy with my repaired original springs.

I had my two rear springs re-arched and two front springs made from new for $250 here in Oz. It was a good deal through a mate of a mate though. I have been back since and I don't think that he's on the same medication as he was in my first visit - certainly not as friendly (as he was previously) on my second visit! Like Tod says, just a matter of finding someone that has the right equipment.

I bought a new set of front springs from St Louis Springs for about $100 each plus shipping. I don't think it's worth it to rearch the ones you have...it could work, but why spend more and take a chance?

I had them leave out one leaf too so it would be a softer ride.
