LAKOTA169 Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Today, my FOP Lodge took a group of special needs kids to the zoo. Everyone had a great time. As a side note, One of the kids mother works at the zoo and made arrangements for the kids to get a chance to feed a giraffe. Even us big kids fed him. Their tongue is very rough. Quote
greg g Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 A trip to the detroit Zoo without any mention of the Chrysler designed train??? Glad the kids and fellas had a good time in a good cause, and no doubt Giraffes are cute but come on...... Quote
randroid Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Gents, You've got to love WWWs on anything designed by Chrysler but I prefer a steam engine to look like a steam engine. You've got to love the FOP too, and it's good to see the good they do with my meager donations. -Randy Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 time to alter the sign..seems the actual roadbed passes over three sets of tracks..now I admit the odds of two trains that close in proximity to the switch is unlikely as also would be for the second set so based on that, there are three sets of tracks nonetheless. LAKOTA169 Posted June 15, 2012 Author Report Posted June 15, 2012 Greg, part of the zoo trip includes a ride on the train. Randy, any donation is greatly appreciated. My lodge participates in the local Special Olympics, plus at Christmas we take Santa to a couple of local schools that have special needs programs. Last year we had over 100 kids that we bought presents for. Because of the costs of their treatments and medication, a lot of the parents can't afford presents for the kids. My wife is the Chairperson for the Santa Visit committee, and all year long we are out shopping for bargans on toys for the kids. Besides working with the special needs kids, we also give out six $500 scholarship checks to children and grandkids of lodge members who are going on to college. To help fund these things, we have an Oldies show in August (Eddie Holman is this years headliner) and a basketball game between lodge members and members of the Detroit Lions. Quote
