Ed, I never counted teeth, but counting the turns of the shaft of the 3 speed I took out of my '45, it is 3.4 in first, and 1.8 in second. I think about 3.8 in reverse. Years ago when it still had a flat six (230) I put a '57 Chrysler 2.93 complete rear in it and it drove well. No issues in starting out.

Someone just uploaded all the W series transmission ratios to our yahoo group. This is what is listed for WC 3spds.

1st – 3.3 to 1; 2nd – 1.78 to 1; 3rd – 1.00 to 1. Rev. – 4.3 to 1

Looks like first and second don't vary much between the WC 3spd and the T5 I have.

Last weekend drove the car 120 + miles round trip to Rust-o_rama in Salem. Car drove great, 5th gear 65 mph all day long. Only had to shift down into 4th when I had to pull the Santiam grade just south of Salem..But still was able to maintain 56 mph climbing the hill with the Ol' 201 Flatty..im very happy..

so..as the 4th gear is 1.1 and the newer rear ratio is 2.94 you theortically would not have had to do any shifiing at all in stock tranny/engine and would have been able to do the same speed as with the new T5 and 2.94..so proof once again that these engine and the available torque is adequate to pull this car along on modern highways with taller diffs..no rocket out of the chute but steady wins every time..
