randroid Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 (edited) Gents, I like hot rods, pure and simple, but after I got out of the Navy I married into a racing family and learned just what it cost to build and maintain one and my automotive aspirations went another direction. That doesn't mean I don't still like them but this clip may leave you questioning how far it's practical to take a project: http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/jay-leno-1975-plymouth-duster-story-powerful-1-220845658.html We can all still dream but I'll leave the building to a master. -Randy Edited May 5, 2012 by randroid Quote
55 Fargo Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Well with the buck$ He has, anything can be had. For the majority of the masses, having just 1 old car or hot rod, can be a tough goal to obtain. I know a Guy who has a few dollars, collects cars, and other automotive memorablia, and any thime He has a whim, He just orders something, or goes and buys it. Must be nice, sure would be nice, and not being critical, as I most likely would do the same.... Quote
PatS.... Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 The thing I have always admired about Leno is the fact he has never sold a vehicle yet and he drives them all...heck he even let Dennis Gage drive a Duezzy. That's what cars are FOR...to DRIVE. The owner didn't want any money and the scholarship idea was very classy. This was a great feel-good story...thanks for sharing!!! Quote
fstfish66 Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 some one sent me that artice last week,,,,i love lenos and his knowledge of all things cars and bikes,,,finally was able to get tickets to see leno live in august,,,atlantic city,.,,, and think with all his money,,,some one gave him that duster to take care of after the orignal owner /bilder passed,,,GREAT STORY, Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I saw that clip last week, the gent who passed away was an old aquaintance of Jay's....he gave Jay the car under the premmis that Jay keep it, and I'm sure he will....Jay made a nice donation to the auto restoration class at the local school there as a token of gratitude for the car...nice all around. As for how far to take a given car, well, don't we do that sometimes? Take any given old mopar and tweek it in any way shape or form; color, interior, motor/trans...we build it the way we like it. This ideal of our car may fit other's thoughts but as always there are those who'd say we did it wrong....there's purists out there, modders, and anything in between. If you've got the money and want a car a certain way, then that's what you head in with for your project. How many times have you seen a car where it looks nice and all, but you still wind up saying, I would've done that this way, or not done that at all if it were mine.....it's really only your call when it's your car... ..now, to go back to my research on how to shoe horn a 265 long block flathead 6 into my 201 powered short block 40 plymouth...to each they're own! mrwrstory Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Here's a good reason for keeping them stock, in my humble opinion,...and it's got nothing to do with money! * Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Here's a good reason for keeping them stock, in my humble opinion,...and it's got nothing to do with money!* Makes that furd pickup behind and above the orange slice look really good. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Yeah, I'm 6'4"...I'd kill myself trying to get in and out of something like that. Add that IMHO only early 50s buicks looked good with round rear wheelwell openings...the guy could've extended the rear fenders alittle more and....hehehe, see how this goes with other folks cars! I can't talk about that car's paint - I painted an old Kawi cycle house of kolor hot pink pearl for the visual effect...saw it on a 32 ford 5 window and thought it looked cool/different. Quote
yourpc48 Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 Other than the round fender cutouts I like this car. Orange and all. To each their own. Thats my story and Im stickin to it. Quote

wallytoo Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Makes that furd pickup behind and above the orange slice look really good. it'll take more than that to make a drof look good. i'll take the car. Quote
