Gents,

I like hot rods, pure and simple, but after I got out of the Navy I married into a racing family and learned just what it cost to build and maintain one and my automotive aspirations went another direction. That doesn't mean I don't still like them but this clip may leave you questioning how far it's practical to take a project:

We can all still dream but I'll leave the building to a master.

Well with the buck$ He has, anything can be had. For the majority of the masses, having just 1 old car or hot rod, can be a tough goal to obtain.

I know a Guy who has a few dollars, collects cars, and other automotive memorablia, and any thime He has a whim, He just orders something, or goes and buys it. Must be nice, sure would be nice, and not being critical, as I most likely would do the same....

The thing I have always admired about Leno is the fact he has never sold a vehicle yet and he drives them all...heck he even let Dennis Gage drive a Duezzy. That's what cars are FOR...to DRIVE.

The owner didn't want any money and the scholarship idea was very classy.

This was a great feel-good story...thanks for sharing!!!

I saw that clip last week, the gent who passed away was an old aquaintance of Jay's....he gave Jay the car under the premmis that Jay keep it, and I'm sure he will....Jay made a nice donation to the auto restoration class at the local school there as a token of gratitude for the car...nice all around.

As for how far to take a given car, well, don't we do that sometimes? Take any given old mopar and tweek it in any way shape or form; color, interior, motor/trans...we build it the way we like it. This ideal of our car may fit other's thoughts but as always there are those who'd say we did it wrong....there's purists out there, modders, and anything in between. If you've got the money and want a car a certain way, then that's what you head in with for your project.

How many times have you seen a car where it looks nice and all, but you still wind up saying, I would've done that this way, or not done that at all if it were mine.....it's really only your call when it's your car...

..now, to go back to my research on how to shoe horn a 265 long block flathead 6 into my 201 powered short block 40 plymouth...to each they're own!

Here's a good reason for keeping them stock, in my humble opinion,...and it's got nothing to do with money!

Yeah, I'm 6'4"...I'd kill myself trying to get in and out of something like that. Add that IMHO only early 50s buicks looked good with round rear wheelwell openings...the guy could've extended the rear fenders alittle more and....hehehe, see how this goes with other folks cars!

I can't talk about that car's paint - I painted an old Kawi cycle house of kolor hot pink pearl for the visual effect...saw it on a 32 ford 5 window and thought it looked cool/different.
