Ot-General question about my old truck

18-20 is pathetic. My v6 dakota gets that and I have some power. It will tow cars haul crap etc without difficulty.

My 95 Dodge 12v gets about the same as the Ranger did 20-21 mixed driving, the best I got was a trip from San Diego to Las Vegas, cruise set on 70 with the AC on...24.78.

My new truck 04 Cummins 2wd crewcab with 33" tires avg's about 18-19....other than the price of a compact why bother.

sad part of buying a 4 banger..they require higher revs and lower gears to do equal work..often the trade off in the cylinders is not economical..never send a boy to do a man's job...

Not always true. My 2.4 Tacoma gets 27 MPG empty. 18-20 MPH loaded (1200lbs) with a heavy canopy. Runs at 2200 RPM @ 70MPH. Plenty of power for me. An excellent trouble free truck. Will buy another one if this one ever gives up.

I agree. My '02 4x4 24 valve with just shy of 200k get similar mileage. Hard to consider a small truck when a bigger rig has similar benefits.

there is a ton of difference between the models you folks making acclaim to verse jipjobs, look at the year for one, no fuel injection then...look at the small tires..now look again at your modern rigs...big leap in technology..why every one compares apples when shopping for oranges still eludes me..

Had a 1979 Black and Orange Dodge D50 Sport long ago and it had plenty of power/speed too-After I broke out the honeycomb cat. Well built truck except for the Mikuni wax choke and weak head. Drove it 290,000 miles-3 heads though!
