Weall back at her, stripping the cab of the old blue paint, down to bare metal and solid primer in spots.

My weapon of choice, 3m stripping discs, and DA sander to finish up.

I will then treat bare metal with Picklex 20 phos acid.

The 3m stripping discs on any drill, make very short work of old paint and rust.

I also am throwing in 1 pic, of the old girl with some old cargo in her box....

So Fred, is the plan to paint it using the same process as the Chrysler? It turned out great. What colour are you thinking of?

Looks good, Fred. I would be interested in the colour as well. Also, watch out for April showers because they can bring May rust!:P

I dunno for sure Rob, the OEM colors for the truck are as follows, cab and front clip55 Dodge (coral), 56 Fargo doors( dark blue), and 52 Fargo box(dark green).

I think I will be going Blue, maybe a royal blue, this truck is not a stocker, is a mish mash of many parts, so being factory is not a big concern to me, at least at this point. Any color suggestions welcomed, the panels are beat up, so choices may not be as open toa less flawed body, or thousands to pay a decent bodyman other than mediocre Me.

Here is a 3m stripper dics in action for Bingster, this was done in about 10 seconds...

Maybe you could do one of those snappy 3 tone combos that

Chrysler Corp used in the late 50s......like pink, black and white....or

some such. Would stand out in the crowd.

Fred,

Look into getting the Bristle Disks from 3M. Much better at stripping the paint you have. They're more expensive than what you have but last longer and work better.

Several grits available. The 60 grit will eliminate that paint and leave a primer ready finish behind.

Thanx Anthony, will look at those next strip time.

Hey all, today I stripped cowl, back of cab, and along the doors.

The back of the cab will get done again, once I pull the box again, and will remove front and rear glass to do a proper job, but for now she is in a decent primer.

This time I opted not to strip all to bare steel, a lot of the OEM finish was solid and actually in good form, I know some will cringe, and maybe will regret this.

I have to do all body work on top of this primer, to be followed by either a 2 k high build urethane or super thick polyester filler primer, that goes on very thick.

This will of course need tons of blocking, guide coat ect.

Just this playing around ended up being the better part of an 8 hour day.

Hey when old cars and trucks need a 100 hours of work, and that is by a seasoned pro, do the math 100 X say $80.00 per hour, and we are looking at $8000.00, then add supplies, paint and anything else, easily up to 10 grand.

BTW, go a few too many whiffs today, even though I had on my respirator, and I feel it now
