Arthur1947 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Before I put my front clip on I would like to relocate my shock perches. I heard from many of the forum members this was a worthwhile upgrade. Any idea how much this would cost and the most reliable source. I believe someone on this forum makes a kit. I tried contacting mr. street Rod via telephone but it seems impossible. Pictures are always helpful. Best. ARTHUR Quote
Robin (UK) Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Hi Arthur, Charlie Akers can now supply the kit. I have just ordered from him. Send him a message to: olddaddy@tampabay.rr.com Good luck. Robin. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Arthur; This picture is not my car as I have not yet done the relocation. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 As has also been stated, simply installing new gas shocks in place of the old oil filled ones makes a noticeable difference. I have not relocated the mounts and can tell some difference in ride and handling. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 I never drove my car with the old shocks but it seems fine to me with all new gas ones. Quote
littleman Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I've relocated, and I'm a beliver. Just my HO AL Quote
Kirby D34 Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Arthur I relocated my shocks about two years ago using mr street rod kit. the cost was about $180 plus shipping, was not hard to do. just like the picture Don Coatney posted. Kirby Quote
SonomaJim Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Arthur, I got my upper shock mounts as part of a kit with dropped spindles and disk brake conversion from PlyDo, so don't know the cost of the mounts alone. Unlike the ones shown in Don's picture, where the bracket is attached to a plate which is welded to the side of the frame, the brackets I got had no such plate, are notched to overlap the frame top slightly and are welded directly to the frame top and side. I've just installed them to the stripped frame so have not had a chance to judge any improvement, and the car won't be drivable for another year. Jim Quote
Arthur1947 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Report Posted November 2, 2006 Oh man! Decisions decisions! I really should have considered this before reassembling the front end. I could always give the gas shocks a try and if I'm not happy with them convert things over when I switch over to disc brakes. I guess I'll have to sleep on it. Best. ARTHUR Quote
