I too have read that flywheels should be surface ground flat and not turned on a lathe to get an even cut without the hard spots that tend to grab and and make a clutch chatter. I do personally know the hard spots (Overheated areas) do indeed cause clutch chatter.

True or not about lathe turned not curing the hard spots?

I guess I would take or talk to the best engine builder in the  area and get their approval as to how to best do it.

I understand that lathes are much more common than a surface grinder is  and maybe costs?

Again not for sure here.

Need some advice on exhaust manifold. The 265cu in manifold has a broken flange. I have a good manifold off of a Canadian 218 cu in but the port is 2” vs 2 1/2” and the  tube seemed to be much larger on the 265 manifold. Should I try and repair the flange or use the 218 manifold?

Also I chose to use the head off the 218 because the combustion chamber was 0.130” shallower than the 265. It was identical in every other way. No valve clearance concerns I checked. IMG_0187.jpeg.3f9fe1395faf1b0d398e69160252c9d0.jpeg
