BobT-47P15 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I wonder if it originally had windows in the rear doors and behind them, as it looks like those areas have been blanked out or filled in. A local funeral home not far from our house (when I was a kid) used Chrysler product vehicles of various styles. Don't recall whether they had one just like this, though. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I guess the factory must have closed off the windows, judging by this picture. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Look more homemade than coachbuilt to me......... Quote
54Illinois Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 "To sum it up you have an opportunity to own a very, very rare car. You could be the only one at the funeral car and ambulance meet with one of these. Or customize it and run it through Barrett Jackson as a resto mod limo, street rod, or hot rod sedan delivery. Or maybe put it on a 4x4 chassis and make it look like the Grave Digger!" Translated- This is what I wanted to do, until my wife said..."There ain't no way in heck am I driving around in an old hearse, get rid of it!" Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 that is what all the soccer moms drove back then... Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 that is what all the soccer moms drove back then... Back then there were no soccer moms. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Back then there were no soccer moms. WEll...had there been soccer...this is what they would have driven...maybe band-camp moms then..or maybe a few took the kiddies to ballet practice..lots of room for a crew in a tutu Quote
PatS.... Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 This was an army base ambulance for much of it's life. Was for sale locally a couple of yrs ago. Coachwork seems similar Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Carrying on Tim's and Don's conversation: "Wow, I did not know the soccer moms did also funerals..." Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 I wonder if some previous owner decided to cover the back windows and make it a big "sedan delivery". Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Both Chrysler & Plymouth pictured here are really handsome cars as long wheelbase versions. I think I'd prefer both with windows, as ambulance version. (Well, most hearses had windows too...) Hearses are "in fashion" (yes, kind of cool), but period correct ambulances are getting much more rare sight. True to detail ambulance interior is hard to build and not practical to have. How about detailed ambulance exterior and sort of "camper" with old field beds in patient compartment? Quote
