Yes, I have the same question

How does everyone insure their antique vehicles?

Because mine is a daily driver, I just insure it at replacement value through my regular insurer.:)

My regular agent (Farmers) is also a car guy with a couple of classic cars & he hooked me up with $15,000 value full coverage for $308 a year.

It really helps if the agent understands old cars & is not just a number cruncher.

I currently have All State but when I called the lady to see what they would do in case of a total loss her answers told me that she did not have a clue. I asked her what means they would use to asses a value to my pickup. Her answer was that they would look it up to see what it "booked" at, and if it had air conditioning and any options such as power windows or power seats, that they would add to the value. Like I said she did not have a clue. Nice lady but no clue! Made me start to worry just how insured I really am. I called Hagerty, the guy I spoke with seemed very knowladeable and was very helpful. I also found out they only insure classic vehicles. Everything sound good but would like some feed back if anyone has any.

When I looked a Hagerty a few years ago they had restriction about using it as a daily driver.

My insurance company told me if the truck were stored in a locked garage with solid grouted block walls, a motion detector, laser deterrent's and if I never drove anywhere that my truck could be insured for $75,000 for only $750/per year.

I'm considering their quote for me and my brothers trucks. I think my brother will get a better deal as his Pilothouse is much smaller than mine.

I had my 48 Pilothouse insured with hagerty ,like most classic insurance they have daily driver restrictions. They will ask for a photo of the bed when insuring a truck so it needs to be in good condition other then nothing different then insuring a car.

I just got this quote today. Still looking it over. At first pass, looks decent.

Guaranteed value = $10,000

Annual Premium - $200

LIABILITY COVERAGE LIMIT OF LIABILITY VEHICLE 1

A: Bodily Injury $250,000 Per Person / $500,000 Per Accident

A: Property Damage $100,000 Per Accident

B: Medical Payments $5,000 Per Person/Per Accident

C: Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury $250,000 Per Person / $500,000 Per

Accident

C: Underinsured Motorists Bodily Injury

$250,000 Per Person / $500,000 Per Accident

COVERAGE FOR DAMAGE TO YOUR AUTO(S) VEHICLE 1

Other Than Collision DEDUCTIBLE >> $ 0

Collision DEDUCTIBLE >> $ 0

Spare Parts - $750 Total Limit ------------------- Included ($0 ded) -------------------

I tried to attach the quote but the file was too big, so cut and paste.

The usage restrictions are really important, so ask to see those provisions in writing.

The coverage could be useless if you wind up wrecking the truck while you're taking a drive to Home Depot to pick up some stuff....that trip could be considered a 'daily driver type of activity'

Great point, Dan. You really have to read the fine print and understand the terms or the insurance is useless.

Here is the latest twist from my insurance agent:

"Once a policy is put in place, there is an agreed value. Hagerty will look at the pictures and verify the vehicle information to make sure that the values are ok."

Sounds fishy to me. Like, "pay me and then we will see what we can do."

Maybe I just ought to insure it as a regular truck and just get a load of liability insurance. That stuff is cheap. Then I can drive it anywhere, park it anywhere. Heck it doesn't go fast enough to hit anything and hurt it. Not like I am going to drive it at Daytona.

All that means is they won't let you insure a heap for 20,000. I have my cars insured with them. I pay about 225 a year for 3 vehicles including an add on for their road side assistance. Of course the biggest test of the insurance is when you have a claim and I haven't had to do that yet.

Fellas, I called Hagerty and asked them spacifically about their "daily driver" restriction. The lady told me that they expect people to drive their classic vehicles for pleasure, but not for business or for daily work transportation. I was told that if Ol Grama and I were out for a Sunday drive and something happened that it would most definately be covered. Also the garentee of payment on a total loss in the amount that they insure your vehicle for is in writing in the policy. After talking with them and reading what some of you wrote here I believe that I am going to give them a try. Like I said in my initial post, my All State agent is a nice lady but does not have a clue as to what would happen if something bad happened to my 48. S.E.

I can tell you first hand Hagerty is a great insurance company. I had insurance with them for less than a week and my right rear wheel came of my 64 GTO and damaged the rear quarter. They had a independent appraiser there in two days and a check to me within the week after the damaged happened. They ask you when you insure your vehicle how many miles a year you will be driving your vehicle and adjust the rate from there.
