Socal48 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Is there supposed to be any movement in the steering box when rocking the the steering wheel back and forth..I removed two shims and adjusted the nut on top...it really got rid of a lot of slop, but there's still some play. Probably half of what I had, I checked the steering linkage and related parts with the wheels on the ground and had my wife rock the steering back and forth...everything looked normal, no excessive movement, but the box itself moves a little and the steering shaft along with it...Im just wondering if it's the innards or the box to frame gasket. Jerry Roberts Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 I don't know what kind of car you have but it sounds like the box isn't secured to the frame . It also sounds like the clamp that holds the column to the dashboard isn't tight enough . Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Profile say 48 coupe so I would suggest you look close at the isolation rubber between the sector and the frame for over soft and excess squish on oil/grease softened rubbered...these are available yet rom you local friendly...
