Look on the back side bottom for a pipe plug. Remove the plug, insert a greese zerk, and pump grease into the bearing cavity until it comes through the bearing. Then replace the plug and reinstall the backing plate. Otherwise you have to pull the axle shaft, with a puller, to repack the bearings.

You can use the drum and a piece of PVC pipe just big enough to fit over the axle housing bolts to pull those bearings.

Got a kingpin in today, is it ever hard to move, is it suppose to be stiff when newly installed? I used lots of grease..........Summer is getting near and parts are starting come in, life is good.:)

I had my spindle bushings pressed and lined up by a machine shop. The slid in very easily, just a very slight tap with a 'plastic' head mallet. I wouldn't think they should be tight because they have to turn on those bushing. The king pin never turns, it is locked in place on the axle.

Doing step 11 as we speak........I took it to the machine shop next door, luckily the old boy that runs place knows what to do............i really appreciate your help on this.........I spend a lot of time reading through all the threads here and then when something specific comes up I forgot where I read it.........Once the front axle comes back from next door things should really get moving on this old beauty.........

Things got busy all of a sudden, one of the guys here got let go and I had to pick up his work load......

My front end is complete and installed C/W new king pins, new springs, tie rod ends, new bearings and races and brakes, just need to run new steel lines.

The back brakes are today........thanks for the diagram, I almost forgot how to assemble shims and back plate......This took longer then I wanted but its all good in the end........cheers and thanks.......:cool:
