Johnny One Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 I forgot to post this. I wanted to make sure it ran before pulling it apart and here she is................ Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Look on the back side bottom for a pipe plug. Remove the plug, insert a greese zerk, and pump grease into the bearing cavity until it comes through the bearing. Then replace the plug and reinstall the backing plate. Otherwise you have to pull the axle shaft, with a puller, to repack the bearings. Merle Quote
Young Ed Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 You can use the drum and a piece of PVC pipe just big enough to fit over the axle housing bolts to pull those bearings. Quote
Johnny One Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 Thanks for the tips......much appreciated.......... Quote
Johnny One Posted April 2, 2012 Author Report Posted April 2, 2012 Got a kingpin in today, is it ever hard to move, is it suppose to be stiff when newly installed? I used lots of grease..........Summer is getting near and parts are starting come in, life is good. Quote
HanksB3B Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) Did you do Step 11? Hank Edited April 3, 2012 by HanksB3B Quote
pflaming Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 I had my spindle bushings pressed and lined up by a machine shop. The slid in very easily, just a very slight tap with a 'plastic' head mallet. I wouldn't think they should be tight because they have to turn on those bushing. The king pin never turns, it is locked in place on the axle. Quote
Johnny One Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 Doing step 11 as we speak........I took it to the machine shop next door, luckily the old boy that runs place knows what to do............i really appreciate your help on this.........I spend a lot of time reading through all the threads here and then when something specific comes up I forgot where I read it.........Once the front axle comes back from next door things should really get moving on this old beauty.........
