gow589gow Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 I am rebuilding a 230 in an old Yale Fork Lift. What type of fluid is used in the fluid drive? Thanks Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Go to the main web page supporting this forum. In the technical tips section you will find your answer. While on the main webpage supporting this forum I suggest you read everything there as there is a lot of information about P-15's and D-24's. Quote

48mirage Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I went to NAPA and got universal tractor fluid by Valvoline. Has served me well. From the tech articles: "Universal Tractor Fluid #134". You will need almost 2 full gallons. Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I just looked up the oil capacity of the 1946-52 fluid drive couplings- Later 1951 up Fluid Torque drive couplings NOT included. This information is out of my 1955 National Data Service book. Six cylinder car FD couplings-6 Quart capacity. Eight cylinder car FD couplings-8 Quart capacity. Quote
captden29 Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 i always used hydraulic jack oil in my 51 gyromatic. the non-foaming quality is important. it worked perfectly and not as expensive as that 10w that guy is selling. $10 a qt is way too much when you can use other products safely at a much lower cost. tractor fluid is also a choice of many. so many products are labeled for special use when a different one will do the same job for less money. if we only had the interchange book for that. capt den Quote
greg g Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 What are you using that fluid for, the fluid drive coupling or the transmission? I believe the distinction is important to specify, as they are seperate units. They also have different lubrication requirements with different specification. Quote

I posted int he other thread; I thought it was this one. Quote
greg g Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 Comment was directed to Capden29 who specifically used the term Gyromatic (the transmission) Then mentioned non foaming which is a specification for the fluid drive unit. So again there is a opportuity to miss interperet which unit and which fluid is bering refered to. Quote
captden29 Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 greg, i used the hydraulic jack fluid in the transmission, i think. it leaked and then would slip, so i would pull the plug on the side of the transmission, refill and be on my way. i was the M6 i believe. i sold the car to buy a 54 windsor which has the powerflite and will run on dex III. capt den Quote
