Alexander Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 How did the plymouth badge come out? Looks like you got it figured out. Quote
mrwrstory Posted November 4, 2011 Author Report Posted November 4, 2011 Sanding the back of the Special Deluxe badge worked great. - The escutcheon for the center of the dash was a lot more work. Patience paid off. Not perfect as the rehab now highlights some of the flaws that I could not sand out. Still pretty satisfying. - Both of the plastic pieces are painted on the back surface with a medium metallic gray, same as parts of the engine, trans and suspension Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 That really looks nice. You say it's not perfect, but it certainly looks perfect to me. Quote
mrwrstory Posted November 5, 2011 Author Report Posted November 5, 2011 When I hold this little spring steel clip in the place that seems to make sense, it doesn't look like it does anything. The contour on the bottom, (as viewed here) matches the contour of the hinge. Am I missing something? Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Really nice work. Looks great. Quote

I have never removed my glove box (why is this called a glove box as I dont know anyone who stores gloves here) door but a prior owner may have. I do not have a clue what this clip does for a living. Niel Hoback Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 That little clip is a spring that makes the door pop out when you unlatch it. I don't have that little spring clip and I really miss it. Quote
Andydodge Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 And up until about 8mths ago I never knew my Dodge glove box door should have had a little spring to pop the door ajar............I have only had the car 40yrs......lol.......used a cutdown spring steel chassis clip and voila.......the door opens like magic!!.........thank you Forum!........andyd Quote

I don't have that little spring clip and I really miss it. Thanks, that splains it. But I still must do a couple of taps on my door before it springs open. Perhaps my spring has sprung once too often? My life story. Probably way too much information. Quote
littleman Posted November 6, 2011 Report Posted November 6, 2011 Should I expect to see this one at the end of this month? AL Quote
mrwrstory Posted November 6, 2011 Author Report Posted November 6, 2011 Like in Del Mar???? Nah, 'tho I'm threatening to fire the engine before the end of the year. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 6, 2011 Report Posted November 6, 2011 Don......will that little spring clip move forward toward you, and perhaps just barely touch the door of the box? Maybe that's what makes it pop open. Just guessing. Quote
mrwrstory Posted November 7, 2011 Author Report Posted November 7, 2011 Here 'tis. Anyone know how many diff. screw/thread sizes in the back of a P-15 dash? Must be at least a dozen, ....thought I was workin on a Ford. And yes, the little spring thing does indeed pop the door open. How the lock works is a mystery, but I'll leave that for another time. - Quote

Mine really came out better than expected, great help in saving this old part. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) I still build models, real cars too, but not nearly as quickly! If I find an old model that needs to be stripped of paint I use castol super clean or purple power cleaners. Doesn' hurt the plastic, strips old paint off easily though sometimes it may take a few days, and preps the plastic cleanly for the new paint. Also works for metal items too...with time and patients nearly anything can be redone- Nice job on those dash pieces!...I'd add only this for what it's worth. The back of that plymouth plate has raised ribs running in a diagonal pattern, you "could" softly wet sand the tops of those ridges with high grit sand paper or "very carefully" scrape the tops to clear plastic again...then add a back coat of black paint to give it depth and pop alittle more...yeah, too many years of building armor{tanks} and doing washes to highlight the panels. Niel Hoback Posted May 21, 2012 Report Posted May 21, 2012 You must be psychic! I just tried making my own from steel banding material yesterday. Seems to work! I used the 3/4" stuff, drilled a 5/32 hole and bent to fit. That stuff is pretty springy and free behind most stores on old skids and such. Quote

I just happen to read this thread and realized why my door was so hard to open. I just thought the rubber bumpers had no push anymore. Darren Quote
