Hello everyone,

My painter/ body guy ran off (moved away) and closed his home shop and did not get a few of my parts back to me. I have been able to find most evey thing I lost but the 2 hood handles for a 1953 B4b. I'm not sure if the older truck (48-50) are the same, but any info will help. Does anyone have an extra set avaliable to sell?

Also, I am working on the hood air vent. All is well except the 2 bolts that the vent hinges on broke when I tried to remove them. They are the very important bolt with a 1/8" shoulder to allow the vent to move and still be tighted to the welded in truck support. If you have ever put one together, then you know what blots I mean. Does anyone know of a source for these elusive bolts? I searched the internet and I have come close and I do have an idea on how to repair the problem with a brass bushing, but I would rather have the single bolt.

Thanks for any help

Yea I saw those on ebay and that maybe my next approch. I was hopping that someone on this site might have a pair. I'v got one more suorce in my local junk yard but I think the hood and all as been picked long ago. I know a few junk yard source too. I like working with you guies much better.

I'll check that bolt out. It seems that I looked at this web site before and this is best I could do, by ordering a $2 item for 10$ shipping or so. Thanks I will look again and be sure.

I find that most of the hood latch handles that I come across have rusted pretty well around where the handle goes through the hole in the side of the hood. I installed both of my handles and adjusted the hood lock-down mechanism on my truck yesterday. I used small plastic sleeves mounted over the handle where it goes through the side of the hood. I am hoping that the copper anti-seize compound that I have used (on the powder-coated handles) will prevent further rust. I found that the sleeves also eliminated the play usually found in the area between the handle and the hole in the hood. The photo attached shows a sleeve fitted to the handle, as well as one not fitted. The sleeve when fitted is not very noticeable - even to the trained eye!

Mike, I did away with my vent, but may have retained the pivot bolts. Let me look. I have sold our house so we are in the process of packing up. Give me a few days. I have found all but one piece of the glass channel stuff you have been waiting forever for....:o

Thanks Bud,

I don't think I'll be needing the glass channels I re-made mine and they truned out realy nice and easy to adjust. Now the vent bolts may save me some fabrication time. I have come up with a way to repair the problem, but the real bolts are still the best way to go. Thanks for looking Bud.

Those plastic sleeves look really nice Dave. That puts a nice finishing touch on that handle. Where did you get the plastic sleeve and the finished looking bushing at the end of the sleeve? I wish my old body didn't run off with my handles.

The plastic sleeves came from a friend of mine that makes aluminium trays (beds in your language) for Oz utes (pickups). They are used in the hinge system that allows the sides of the trays to be removed. I recalled getting a couple of these sleeves a while ago for my tray sides. I started messing around with my truck hood latches the other day and thought that the sleeves would make them more solid, and as it turned out they were almost a perfect fit! They come ready made with the "finished looking bushing at the end of the sleeve". I would imagine that they would be available in other parts of the world. I don't reckon that they would be too pricey either. I can send some better photos with dimensions if you require. I am certainly happy with they way they turned out on my truck.

Mike-I've got a set of latch handles. May even have the shoulder bolts on a vent from a parts truck. PM me if you're interested. Mike F

The ny-lock is fine for the bolt, but you still need the shoulder on the bolt so the vent arm can move freely. The shoulder on the bolt is hinge for the vent and the shoulder is just the same thickness of the arm of the vent.
