Rickshaw Challenger
Wondering the value of my car? It's a 46 Dodge D24 2 Door Sedan. This was my fathers first car which he planned to restore in retirement. He didn't make it to retirement so he left it to me. The idea of restoring this car myself has finally worn off. And my own projects, 3 new children, have become the priority. The car will not be able to accompany us on an upcoming move. New Jasper engine 3.8 /230 6 CY CHR rebuilt distributer, carburetor, generator, and starter radiator cleaned 4 new tires, 600-16 BFG 3 1/2 WHT 4 new tubes, 550/600-16 Brake hoses, master cylinder kit, rebuilt wheel cylinders many new hoses, belts, wiring Gas tank flushed and cleaned etc. All this work was done by a professional garage, over $9100 worth in 2004. I picked the car up, drove it home, loaded it on a trailer and towed it to the Florida Panhandle, unloaded it and haven't started it since. It sits in the weather and has significant surface rust. and some rust thru in floor board. The paint is original light green. The interior is original (covered) and in terrible shape. The headliner is almost not there. The driver's side door sags and will not latch completely. Only have one hupcap. The front grill is dinged pretty good across the vertical pieces about half way up. All other chrome, some pitted, and glass is present. The dash is complete, but unsure of condition. I have all documentation for maintenance of this vehicle going back to 60's I'm interested in any feedback. Should I get this car back in running order before I sell it? I'm reluctant to start the car because it has been sitting so long. I don't want to damage a new engine for short term gain. Love to see this car restored. What's it worth? Also this car has Rickshaw Challenger along both sides of the hood, It's almost faded away. Anybody have any idea about that? Thanks for any help. oldmopar
You may want to check the want ads to get a better idea of price but looking at the photo and in this economy I would guess maybe $1,500. It would help if you could get it running a good running engine always helps a sale
Rickshaw Challenger
Ouch, I was hopping for maybe twice that. you're right though, not many people buying toys these days. After taking pictures and scouring the records I may have gotten re-attached anyway. I'll post in the for sale side and see what happens. Thanks

Mopars are the cheapest way to enter the old car hobby, but unfortunately it really bites when you go to sell. They just don't fetch the big bucks like a 50 Mercury coupe. Good luck on selling, sometimes all it takes is the right person to see it.
JIPJOBXX
I would guess maybe 1000 dollars.
Captain Neon
Really not much there, I'm sorry to say. Most of the money spent would have to be redone after setting 7 years. $2000 for paint, $5000 for upholstery, $2000 for new woodgraining, $2000 for brakes, $1000 for new floor, $1000 for new tyres. After setting in the mud like that, the rims and gas tank may have to be replaced too. About all any one might want is the engine, but after 7 years of setting outside neglected, it would have to be a good deal for some one to bite. Just a couple of years ago, I was offered a running engine and working tranny for $300 that was already out of the car. I hate to burst your bubble. bobostski
The Hudson tissue dispenser under the dash is worth about $100 or more. It's a rare item.
Rickshaw Challenger
Thanks for all the feedback, I may clean the car up some and see what happens. I hadn't given the old Dodge much attention lately. But looking at all the records and going over the car, I remembered what good shape it's in. Everything under the hood and under the car was like new when I parked it. The engine hummed and it drove great. Even the seats are in usable condition. My first project will be the driver's door sag. I've heard best way to repair is to replace the hinges. Thanks again.
greg g
sometimes you can ream the hinges and put in slightly larger diameter pivot pins.
austinsailor
About 3 years ago I bought a '42 Plymouth 2 door sedan in maybe a little better shape. I gave $1500 and at the time I thought I paid a little more than it was worth, but I liked the car. I'd really be surprised if yours brought more than that.
