blucarsdn Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I am getting close to having my '39 Plym conv cpe all done... After almost 14 years of frustration.. I have been looking for the red patent plate that is attached to the firewall, This plate is an elongated oval that I believe was used by ChryCO from the late 1930's through the 1950's... I have the plate that was on my car, unfortunately the lettering and color has completely faded away from sitting in the Montana weather for 38 years. I have been keeping a sharp eye on ebay for years, to no avail.. The only ones I have found on ebay are aftermarket "hotrod" type plates, in lieu of the original Chrysler plate.. It appears that what I need is a very good original plate, unless someone can steer me to a vendor that has the original style plate....Bill Quote
greg g Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 there is a fellow who sells repops on ebay. Some one just got one a couple of weeks ago. Quote
Furylee2 Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I picked up a repo from the Plymouth Doctor for my 41 coupe. He had them at the POC meet in Detroit a couple of years ago. I see them on eBay all the time, vendor is Valley Vintage. Does it look like this: Quote
randroid Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 blucarsdn, If the above information doesn't help or if you want to compare prices you could call Neil Riddle in Seattle. (205) 285-6534. He used to carry them for my P-15 but that was some years ago. -Randy Quote
blucarsdn Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 I called Wayne Brandon, The Plymouth Doctor, a few minutes ago.. Wayne has a remake of the original style of plate.... Wayne is sending me one. I have done business with him before.. he does a great job. A big thank you to everyone that responded.. Interestingly, I put the same request on the plymouthbulletin several days ago.. Not one response. The attached pix shows what a firewall and data plates look like after they have been exposed to the Montana weather for 38 years...Bill Quote
greg g Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Had it been exposed to NY weather there would meerely be a witness mark........... Quote
Death Dodger Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 The plate on my 1940 Dodge is readable but weathered. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 I'll be needin a newun, too. Mine was so bad after umpteen years in the southwest climes that I didn't even bother to save it. Just an oblong slab of soft dull grey metal. Quote
