I ran it today at high RMPs for five minutes continuously. No noise. Got it up to almost 190 degrees and ran it plenty with lots of acceleration. Still no noise. Just for good measure will repeat tomorrow. If all is quiet, I will declare a guilty verdict on the dented flywheel cover.

Glad you found your problem. I will get around to doing that to mine soon. Mine has a tick as well but I have not started the diagnostic process.

I have also used the screwdriver and broom handle tricks. Its so funny I was at a friends trying to diagnose a problem with his Impala. He had a new toilet plunger right next to the car so I took the rubber part off and started listening with the handle. He then walks up to me with an auto style stethoscope explaining to me that he owns one. I had already found the problem but double checked it with the stethoscope. I may only be 44 but I have used a lot of the old school tricks. I pay attention when the older guys tell me what they used to do.

I have also used an old screwdriver at the back of my gen or alternator to see if its charging or not.

It sure looks to me like you have a phillips screw driver stuck in the clutch pan. That may very well be the source of the noise:rolleyes:

Don are you sure its not a pozidriv screwdriver?
