Well, I found the front bumper and bumper brackets. But I do not have any hardware. Anyone know lenght and size bolts it takes for the brackets? Also, what does it take for the bumper to bracket? Thanks.

You can use a round head bumper bolt 7/16-14 x 1 & 1/4" for the bumper to support bracket and 7/16-14 x 3 & 1/4 "football shaped oval bolts for the bumper guards through to the support bracket. You can buy them at restoration specialties or Napa.

Also, I am not at home. I am on the road for work so I cannot see, but there is a NAPA close by. How many bumper bolts do I need from braces to bumper? Thanks again!

For the front bumper 3 of the round head 1 & 1/4" and 1 each of the 3 & ¼ inch bolts for the two bumper guards. They probably have only 3 & ½ inch length and that will work just fine.

There are 4 nuts & bolts that hold the bumper frame to the car frame and they have fine threads so I assume that they are grade 8 but I don’t remember what size. I just did this over the weekend.

Ed I was surprised also. The Napa store in Milford Delaware has been there for years and he had a shelf full of Bumper Bolts. I bought the last 5 of the 7/16". He told me he could order more ?? He also had the round bolt in 1/2"

He couldn't help with the 3-1/4" bolts. These you can get from Restoration Specialties in 3-1/2" At $5.00 each.

The Napa bolts were $7.00 for 5 bolts with Nuts. RS charges $2.50 each no nuts. Maybe the receipt is in the car and I can post the Napa part number. Could just be left over NOS stock.

Chet...

PS I mailing out the heater trim today. I have the day off.

I went to NAPA and got 4 round bumper bolts RFD BB25. Well, they are supposed to be oval "football" shaped. They do not fit in my bumper very well. I will have to buy some from Restoration Specialties or from Ebay.

On my 48 P15 there are three round bolts for the bumper and Qty-2 3-1/2" bolts one each for the bumper guards. These are the football shaped one's

No bumper guards mounted in the picture. They went to the platter this morning. Bumper needs to be buffed up.!

BB-25 are the ones I purchased from Napa which fit the front bumper same as the old bolts.

Hmmm........I thought all the bolts for holding on the bumper to

brackets were oval.

I am pretty sure you are right, Bob. I have never seen a Plymouth P15 or Dodge D25 with round bumper bolts. They have all been oval.

Mine has round but only because I can buy round chrome ones for $4 at my local hardware store. It started out with all oval shaped ones. Also the oval went horizontally on the bumper and vertically on the guards.

Robert can you post a picture. I just bought the same bolts that were on my old bumper. Maybe they weren’t the correct type ?

Also what do you need for the rear bumper? That has pretty big square holes in it ?

When I had my rear bumper rechromed several years ago, the man said

to remove the stainless covers from the original oval bolt heads.....as they

are usually scraped and dinged up. This is a fairly easy task with a pair

of pliers or two. Then, he plated the actual head of the bolt, which came

out just fine. Since the covering has been removed, the size of the newly

chromed oval head is just a bit smaller than before.....but I can't recall

any one ever saying......"oh, I notice your bumper bolts are smaller."

First of all thanks Bob for providing this help especially with everything you have on your plate these days,

I guess the bolts from my old bumpers were not the correct one’s. Bad assumption that since they were old and rusty that they were original. My second assumption is that the front bolts need to be similar to the rear bolts in your photo. My third assumption is that the length for the rear is similar to that of the front bolts ?

Is any of this sounding correct

Tks Chet…

Chet, I think those are pretty good assumptions.

Obviously, the bolts that go thru the guards are longer than those

that just go thru the bumper and bracket. I can't remember if you

are going to have the guards or not. If so, there is a metal tube the

length of the space between guard and bumper, a "spacer" to keep

from pulling the bolt too tight.

Good info Bob, I don't have the spacer so I guess I will have to fabricate something from the plumbing supply house. Probably some chrome bathroom pipe to replace the spacer. I have the bar that goes behind the bumper guards but I like the way it looks without it.

Many Thanks, Chet...
