DollyDodge Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 What is the diameter of the grease cap for the 1950 3/4 ton PH pickup front axle. I don't have a good caliper so I can't measure the one I have left. One fell off this weekend. Mine is just under 2 inches, but new ones are 1.943, 1.96, and 1.98 (at least those I have found online so far). Rob Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 please let me know even though mine is a half ton maybe they are the same. Thanks, Hank Quote

Mitchell Motors online search shows they have one. Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I Googled all over myself trying Mitchell Motors, found something, put the part number in to no avail. Thanks, Hank Quote

Scruffy49 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Any good trailer shop will have them. Just carry your hub/drum in with you. I even found aluminum brake cylinders at the trailer shop that would work on my 49. Haven't got them yet, but they had them. Quote
JBNeal Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I took my banged up ones into the trailer shop in town and they matched them up. The trick to installing them without bashing them is to use a piece of pipe, circ.tube, metal conduit, etc. that will rest on that wee li'l shoulder and drive smartly. When the hub caps are popped off of mine, that cap looks brand new, like it was installed by a pro & not by a grease monkey. Quote

Do you have a receipt showing the manufacturer and part number for the cap that you got? I'd like to add it to my database... Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Gave Mitchell Motors a call and I'm not arguing that NOS parts are not worth every penny if you are lucky enough to find what you're looking for but at $24.95 ea. I'm hoping to find another alternative. Hank Quote

I guess I should get a pair of calipers on my spare drum... So searching on "grease cap 21-3" turns up a number of on-line retailers that carry that part number for between $1 and $2 ea. I'd probably go to a local trailer supply store where I could look one over and measure it before buying though.... Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 Thanks all, I measured my other cap and with my cheapy calipers I got 1.94. I found this page that has several http://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Grease_Caps-sf-Standard_Grease_Cap.aspx looks like the second one should work. Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 25, 2011 Author Report Posted May 25, 2011 I went to Napa and they had the dust 1.943 grease cap, it doesn't seat all the way to the rim, but it is close. https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=BK_7302409_0282525940&An=0 NAPA Part Number: BK 7302409 Quote
