Now that I have a proper front bumper for my 49 B!B, what do you recommend as a Black finish for it.

I'm thinking powder coat but I know that will cost a few coins.

Or

If I use paint, flat or gloss, and is there a specific paint that should be used?

I never noticed the three little hole fillers on any truck before, looks like bumper bolts but they are just short little stubs held on with clips. After looking at front end pictures today, I see that those holes are where the bumper guards bolt on. I'll put those back in place.

I'm looking for a license plate bracket for the left side, just in case anyone has an extra.

Thanks for your input.

I am going to paint mine gloss black along with the 3 grill bars, I will use Rustguard or Killrust. I think Rustoleum (sp?) is a North American equilivent.

POR15 is strong, although again costs more than Rustguard, and after reading about the finish acheived with a roller, Rustoleum and sand paper earlier in a different thread, I'm sold.

As an Australian Base model these parts were originally painted black, after 50 odd years I cant tell if it was gloss or semi gloss finish, I can tell its not flat.

Before saving up my pennies and dimes for the chromer, I painted my rusty rear bumper satin black rattle can stuff from One of the hardware chains. (TValue or Ace) It lasted two years before I took it to be chromed.

Here's an old photo comparing the B and C series trucks. the bumpers look as shiny as the bodies.

I painted mine a decade ago with Centari acrylic gloss enamel and it still looks good.

Thanks for all of the input, I've ordered POR15 and supplies for prep and top coat. Looking forward to starting the finishing project next week.

Powder Coating would be nice but I've got other stuff to coat as well so I might just as well get set-up and do it my self.
