Young Ed Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Bob if you have a screwdriver you can do it yourself. They are quite simple. And you can keep the old one as a guide if you forget where something goes. And while my plymouth is running fine they are predicting rain for most of tomorrow so I will have to postpone my drive your old car to work day. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Ed, what stuff might work for a temporary crack sealer on the current carb.......something like JB Weld maybe? It may be a while before I get time to mess with the rebuilding as the contractor will be starting work on our kitchen remodel in the next few days. Which, of course, means we gotta take everything out of that room and stash it in the garage, the porch and wherever else for however long the work takes. Might need to move the car at some point. P-12 Tommy Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Bob, Ed's right. It's pretty straight forward. I did mine in about an hour and a half. Tom Quote
Young Ed Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Bob any 2part epoxy for metal should work for a temp fix. But in an hour or 2 you should be able to rebuild the new one and swap. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Are you sure your carburetor is actually cracked? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) The car smelled gassy when I would pull it back in the garage or run it while sitting. Then I began looking......took off air cleaner......saw gas seeping out the split in side of the carb closest to the engine. Ran it for a bit just to make sure that's what it was. It has since occurred to me the crack might have been caused by vibrations of the oil bath air cleaner, as I haven't been using the support rod that attaches from the block to side of the cleaner. Mark D Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Drove Ruby to work today. Can't get any work done cause people keep stopping by my office to ask questions. Last time I looked out the window there was at least 6 people standing around gawking at her. Maybe this wasn't a great idea, I can't concentrate on getting any work done! Quote
1940plymouth Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Although I am retired, I work part time for the town of Neversink, so this morning I gassed up the "Wayback Machine" and Cooper and I drove down to the town hall and the town barn. Hope everyone is having as good a day as Cooper and I are, Bob Quote
Young Ed Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Sadly it was raining this AM and chance of thunderstorms early afternoon per the news report. So the cars are still at home. It is darker outside now then it was at 7am when I got to work so looks like the storm prediction might come true. Quote
Charlie Olson Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 (edited) Since today is Good Friday, I have given myself the day off, from regular work, to do the Lord's work. Today's Lord's work consisted of driving PLYWOOD to the grocery store and spending my Easter tithe funds on non perishable food items, to take to tomorrow's Bethany Bible Church's 7th Annual Motorama, in support of the Phoenix Rescue Mission. There is just something very humbling about opening the rear suicide door, putting the bags of food, in the back seat, that are intended for some one in need. I drove home with a deep feeling of gratitude. Hopefully, there will a number of MoPars at tomorrow's popular event, so I can take some photos to share. http://www.desertcruisers.com/index.php?page=eventinfo&id=1896 Charlie Olson, taking a personal day from The Wood Car Company Edited April 22, 2011 by Charlie Olson Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 In the spirit of full disclosure, I did not drive my P15 on Friday. We had thunderstorms in Topeka on Friday morning. However, I did drive it to work on Monday and Wednesday. For the most part, if there is no forecast of rain, my P15 is my regular driver during the summer. Quote
