ggdad1951 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 so I'm rebuilding the e-brake and the band isn't quite round to the wheel...how critical is that it is "perfectly" spaced at the.010-.012 gap between the two? Would it be best to try round it out more to have it "perfect" or is that just out of reach. Quote
Dave72dt Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 The more "round", the better. Will give you better e-brake function, less likely to get hot spots. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 How would you get hot spots? Unless you are like me and forget to release it when driving it shouldn't get hot. Quote
Dave72dt Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Having a spot rub when the brake is released. Band will get flattened out some when relined and unless re-arced you'll have a band that won't engage the full surface and most likely contact in one spot when released. Poorly explained, but I've seen it happen. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 yah, that's kind of what I was thinking was going to happen. Considering this in not goign to be a daily driver and use of the e-brake is going to be minimal, I wonder if it is "close enough for gov't work" and I move on. Ed and Mark A are stopping by Monday prior to having an adult bevy or two and I'll see what they have to say.....thanks guys. Quote
dodgebrice Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 As long as the bad is not touching the drum when released it should have any effect on wear. If it has enough tension when engaged it should conform to the drum fine, unless it is really deformed. Quote
