1941Rick Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Woke up this morning with a skiff of snow on the ground...teach me for bragging about our mild winter....The Antique Car Club had their annual BBQ today....to go or not to go...well after a little thought out I went with the 41...A short ferry ride to Quadra Island and then on to a winery tour and tasting. Finished there and then on to Rebecca Spit...Good food, hot coffee and a lot of people ( about 50) with the same passion for old cars...May have been a little slushy but the car will clean up just fine.... PatS.... Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Looks like a great way to spend a snow day! What's that green stuff under the tree??? Quote
RobertKB Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) Looks like a great time and some nice looking cars. It must be nice to be able to drive your cars most of the year. I am envious!! I live in Alberta and I have already BBQ'd at least 10 times this year. However, all those were in Maui on holiday. Like Pat said, what is the green stuff? Is it called grass? It's been a long time. We might have some by late April or May. Winter sucks except it gives you time to really work on your car(s) if you have a heated garage. It is neat to see that there are some people that are willing to drive their cars in those conditions. The areas closest to me in the Sierra are reporting between 4 and 17 feet of snow depending on which area and whether you look at the "base" or "summit" numbers. Ski area reports usually seem to be optimistic but I'll get a first hand update this weekend where the near by hill is reporting 8 feet at its base area. My avalanche probe pole is marked in cm, but I guess I would not need to convert the numbers for you. Quote

The problem with here, is as soon as it snows the sand and salt trucks come out in full force. The pacific northwest is very mild compared to inland, so although there might be a small amount of snow, the roads are probably just wet. Hey look how green the grass is, for February, don't see that in areas where it's cold but not much snow, because the cold temps turns everything brown and yellow. The west coast of BC is very mild like the Seattle area, so it seems to remain very green in winter... Quote

This year we had snow in early november which is unusual and have just had snow again last night although only a couple of inches. The nice thing about winter here is that the snow falls are usually gone within a few weeks and you get a green break before the next snow fall. Some years we don't get any snow at all. I like those years:D Quote
