DJ194950 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 i'm rebuilding a r12 overdrive for my 50 4 dr. project. 95% done. i have a r10 brochure on r 10's and it says to use 40 or 50 wt. motor oil or 80 wt mineral based trans oil. since the 3 sp. box and the trans comingle oil 40 wt. seems awful thin and i have no idea where to find mineral oil trans fluid. so i'm asking what you are using?. i'd ask george a. but his phone is ALWAYS BUSY. have read from several of you that he loves to talk, so i'm asking for your wise experience for help. thanks doug 50 ply 4 dr. 49 ply suburban Quote

DJ194950 Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Posted January 26, 2011 napa sells the oil recommended ot the 5th. ave site. about $12 per gallon. part #65-201. wasn't avail on the shelf there but was in their warehouse, so will have tomorrow am. also went online to cole hersee about the kickdown switch. came up with part # 9601-02. only problem was nobody had one. napa said zero avail. anywhere, suggested two other places to try. one of them-fleetpride- had one avail in michigan. their computer showed they had never sold any, but could have it shipped at my expense. ended up ordering it at a total cost of $25. should be here in 3-4 days. no problem for me as my project car is still wainting for me to go outside and clean and paint the under hood area and then install rebuilt engine and trans. yes there are kickdown switches avail on ebay. several listed for ford, but i believe they are the same. buy it now price of i believe was $26 plus $6 shipping?? anyway saved about $7 buying locally. may not have been worth the trouble but $7 is still $7 to be spent on car.
