Rodney Bullock Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) I did do some work on the plymouth day before yesterday. I have that heat riser kit. I removed some of the stuff then looked in the package. They did not send the intake and manifold gaskets. When I called the guy he gave me an argument. I don't know I think he ment well but was not understanding. When I called to order the kit. I asked the question if the gaskets came with the kit. I was told yes. I opened the kit and the gasket that goes between the manifold was there and that's it. So I ask the question, can I remove the too manifolds and replace the heat riser with out removing the manifold from the motor and if so tell me how. I got some gaskets from NAPA and will be making another attemp at fixing the heat riser on another day. I really felt like doing it then, Oh well I guess anyone can have a bad day....RIGHT:rolleyes: Edited December 31, 2010 by Rodney Bullock Quote
Young Ed Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Rodney I don't believe you can fix the heat riser in car. Even if its possible it'll be a lot harder. I suggest you order a manifold set from napa and get them removed. That gasket set is under $5 Quote
james curl Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Rodney, unless you can remove the bolts in the heater box so that you can slide the intake out toward the fender it will not come out by lifting the intake up off of the exhaust, the ears hang on the exhaust manifold. The intake has to move out to clear the mounting ears before it can move up to remove it separately. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 Right, I did not think I was nuts. I had the thing off in 2006. The two little screws have came loose and that metel flap is dangling in there. I must get that thing fixed as the sound is only heard when you first start the car I want it gone. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Rodney the flap should be either hit with a dab of welding or the screws should be split and spread so they can't come loose. Quote
desoto1939 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Rodney, The only gasket that comes with the heat riser kit is the gasket that goes between the intake and exhaust halves. You always have to order the entire manigold gasket set. I think they thought you were talking about the gasket that goes betweenthe two halfs of the manifold for the heat riser. Rich Hartung Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted January 2, 2011 Author Report Posted January 2, 2011 Yes, I see. Now when you say I have to split the screws you are refering to the bottom of the screws once they are installed. What do I use? Quote
JBNeal Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I've split screws with a sharp center punch...the divot the punch makes causes the end of the screw to mushroom out. Quote
