moose Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks Pat for those pictures. Here are some of what I got done in the last couple of days. Rocker panel on pass. side, and front floors both sides. Welded in the screwed in panels on the center and rear floor too. What do you guys suggest to put down on the new floor? Anything good for sound deadening? Rust resistance? Quote
Young Ed Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Moose that is incredible progress. I put POR on my floor. There are some cheaper products that are probably just as good. Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 I've always used Tremclad/Rustolem to paint my floors. Buy the quart can and brush it on nice and heavy, and even a couple coats if you wish. Never had a problem with rust re-appearing after doing this. Just make sure the floor is nice and clean before applying. Nice work so far...Thumbs up!! Quote
moose Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks guys, making lots of progress, Only had it at my house a week and a half! Guess I'm just real gung-ho for this one, and winter is coming and there's no room in the garage. I was leaning towards the POR-15 when I went to NAPA this morning, but they didn't carry it any more. Instead the owner recommended this Chassis Saver gloss black. He swears by it. Sounds like the same as the POR, and just as expensive... Passenger side is complete, but I still need to do the rocker on drivers and a little finish welding, so I waited on painting that side. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Moose who makes the chassis saver stuff? We get a decent discount at napa I want to try it. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Moose good job on the Chrysler! I was also looking at your wiring on the M-6 trans. It is color coded wrong and actually not at all like the original installed wiring. There is a red wire going to the governer-no red should go there- only yellows!. I realize that you can route/ use any color and terminate wires any way that will get the job done, but on these M-5 and 6 transmissions you need to verify with a meter that each wire goes to where it should as you said you did. I have had to repair/rewire many of these old Chryslers for myself and customers in the past- always funky wiring. You stated upshift downshift issues are OK now though. I just saw the odd wiring connections and that red wire to the governer and thought I'd mention it. The "Shift Ease" downshift kit is a good item to use with these transmissions. It lets you control when you want to downshift or you can split shifts too for 4 speed fast acceleration action!. Also no need to floor the gas pedal to force a downshift and strain the drive train... A couple of pics, one from Greg G. as already posted and one of mine from a "Mr Tech" book. Keep up the progress reports! Bob Quote

moose Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 Moose who makes the chassis saver stuff? We get a decent discount at napa I want to try it. Ed-It says on the can "Magnet Paint and Shellac Co." It was $39.99 for a quart:eek: A discount would help... Bob-Yeah, the wrong color on the wires(its what I had at the time) I definitely traced everything, found faulty insulation on the three wires to the transmission. It was bad right behind the oil filter, so I replaced the entire lead that goes up to the three wire connector right before the "control box" over the head. Thanks for keeping your eye on me! I got my package from Brillman Wire Company with nice looking cloth covered wire. I'll try to keep similar colors. Don-Sounds like you're surprised! Quote
