Dennis_MN Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Brought my pickup home today from its long winter nap at a building at a farm east of town. This morning the temps dipped to the low 20's which froze the mud in front of the building. It took about 1/2 hour to get it started but finally with a little help from a charger/starter it got enough gas and fired off. The six mile drive home was not exciting, just a nice cruise in the country. Next week will start the detail work on the engine and front compartment. I plan to remove the front fenders and hood so that I can get at the engine and take the radiator out for painting. I'm going to use some cleaner then a power wash to get most of the grime off. Any one got a favorite degreasor that won't damage paint? Dennis Sullivan Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Yes ! This stuff and a garden hose hooked to the water heater drain valve does a great job. As close to a real steam cleaning as you can get. Ya might want to wear a glove cause the metal spray nozzle on the hose gets pretty hot. PS. Really like your rim color with the red truck. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Dennis I'll second that. Used it lots on my 48 coupe. My truck comes out of storage the 26th. I really need a bigger garage! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I really need a bigger garage! Don't we all, Ed Quote
Young Ed Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I really do. 4 cars and only a 1 stall garage! And those 4 dont even include the 40 plymouth pickup I have disassembled. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I have a 1 and 1/2 car garage, but I have yet to be able to get even 1 car into it. It's full of motorcycle stuff. I feel your pain. Merle Quote

Dennis_MN Posted March 17, 2007 Author Report Posted March 17, 2007 Dennis, is winter really over in MN? It was 75 the other day in NY but this weekend I think they said 2 feet of SNOW............ DutchP.S. Merle, I wonder how many of us are also Motorcycle Nuts as well.......... Here's mine 1971 BMW R60/5 Prior to my Pickup I had a 1997 Honda ST1100ABS I put 138,000 miles on that until Oct 1, 2005 when I came around a S curve and only did half of the S. Smacked the guard rail real good. I was a Motorcycle safety instructor and should have known about target fixation and to turn my head but no, I stared at the guard rail and went over and hit it. I broke my left leg, broke my right shoulder blade into a bunch of small pieces, broke three ribs and punctured my right lung and paralized the diaphram nerve. After 4 hospitals, one helicopter ride, three months in a wheel chair and at least 8 months, I'm about healed. My wife and I agreed that I'd replace the two wheels with four. So thats how the pickup came into the garage. Dennis Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 OUCH!!! I too had a farily nasty reck, about 14 years ago now. Not quite as bad as your's Dennis, but a broken femor and a shattered bone in my hand. 3 weeks in the hospital and rehab center, then a few more months of physical therapy. It wasn't much fun, but it didn't take me away from them yet. Your's sounded MUCH worse. Glad to hear you made it through it all. I have since become an MSF Rider Coach and ride much safer now. (most of the time) Here was garage cleaning day a couple of years ago. The "fleet" has since changed a little, but the count is the same. Merle Quote
