John Mathias Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 without using the voltage step down resistor, how long do you guys think the 6n horns will last with 12v applied? Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 without using the voltage step down resistor, how long do you guys think the 6n horns will last with 12v applied? My guess is one two minute toot or two thousand one second toots. Quote
Dave72dt Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Is there a prize for the correct answer? More details on the question. One long blast or a series of short, pre-determined blasts? Long blast = 6 min 27 seconds. Short blasts probably won't make any noticable difference except maybe tone and decibel level. A sustained long blast will probably heat things up too much and burn them out. Kind of like the starter, it'll work well on 12 in short spurts, just don't lean on it. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 they will blow until they are blown... Quote
John Mathias Posted October 15, 2010 Author Report Posted October 15, 2010 That's what I thought. Thanks for the input guys! Read about 1/2 dozen posts on 12v conv, not much was said directly related to the horns, and these are pretty cool looking, and LOUD, thats why I'm keeping them. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 in all seriousness, if you are not one that just lays down on the horn for no good reason at all...should hold up for quite some time as needed on the occassional toot..I ran a 6 volt horn on my car when a teenage because of the extra loud volume with no side effect...was still working good when I left for Germany..don't know how long/if the new owner of car still used the horn.. Reg Evans Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 In my Pilot House truck I've been tootin my 6 volt horns on 12 volts for over 10 years. The combination of the stock 6 volt horn and an old 6 volt ahooogah horn are so loud that I don't blast them for more than a second or two other wise my lovely little woman will slug me. The combined sound of the dual horns reminds me of the warning horn on a submarine just before it does an emergency DIVE. Sounds like this. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v154/olddodges1/Pilot%20House%20Trucks/?action=view¤t=MVC-001V-1.mp4 Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Reg; You are spending way too much time tootin your own horn:rolleyes: Quote
