P-12 Tommy Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Shel's right. Those go right to the oil galleys. Tom Quote
Big_John Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 The holes go into the oil galleys. When the block was machined, the holes provided access to allow the oil passages to be drilled to feed the main bearings etc. Quote
aero3113 Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 Does anyone have a decent pressure plate assembly they want to sell? I think mine is beyond repair, the groove is very deep. Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 I have an extra 11" clutch assembly and plate. Yours might be a 10", so check the size. Some flywheels are drilled for both, so you might be able to install the bigger clutch even if you had a smaller clutch before. Quote

Send your pressure plate and disc to these folks. You may be able to fit it into a USPS flat rate box. Trust me these folks will treat you right at a very fair price. Call them for a quote. Quote
aero3113 Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) I measured my disc and the assembly bolt to bolt here is what I have. My flywheel is drilled for a bigger one what do you think? Edited March 3, 2011 by aero3113 Quote

aero3113 Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 I will give them a call tomorrow. What should I do with the contact surface on the flywheel? Do I leave it as is or should I put some scotch-brite to it to clean it up a little? Quote
james49ply Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 lOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE "HARD" SPOTS, THE AREA THAT IS SHINY, THIS IS CAUSED BY HEAT, AND THE METAL IS NOW HARDER THAT SUROUNDING METAL, HAVE IT MACHINED TO TRUE IT AND WILL REDUCE THE CHANCE OF CHATTER. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Re: the firewall color. Personally I would make it match the rest of the car (blue) as that's how they were when new. Now's the time to do so. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Send them your flywheel with the clutch. They'll be able to surface grind both surfaces to make them clean and true again. Merle Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 As Merle said the correct way to re-surface the flywheel is to have it ground true. Due to the hard spots a lathe tool will not work as the tool will chatter and jump over the hard spots so a grinder is the way to go. Send the flywheel with the pressure plate or find a local shop who can grind the flywheel surface. Quote
aero3113 Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 I will probably send it out with the clutch. I just looked at the wear surface on the fly wheel and I see little hairline cracks. Hopefully these will clean up. Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Local machine shop did my flywheel for $20. That might be cheaper than shipping. Quote
aero3113 Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 I found a local shop to cut the flywheel up the road from work. Yea,shipping would be high. I called Tennessee Clutch they said it will be about $60 to overhaul my pressure plate and clutch, not bad. They also said it will only take a day for them to rebuild and send back. I will be sending it out tomorrow. Thanks Don! Quote
